Ewan McGregor Got Married To Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead belong to the PCCH, the Private Couples Club of Hollywood, which means that when they do something, you’re likely not going to hear about it until a loose-lipped source spills the beans and reveals what was previously being kept private. Like last year, when we found out that – surprise! – Ewan and Mary Elizabeth had welcomed a baby boy in June 2021 they named Laurie. So no one should really be that surprised that – redundant surprise! – a source claims that Ewan and Mary Elizabeth quietly got married over the weekend, which was pretty much what everyone expected they were probably going to do.
People magazine is reporting that several sources have confirmed to them that 51-year-old Ewan and 37-year-old Mary Elizabeth tied the knot over the weekend in a small ceremony that involved a handful of friends and family. Because, according to one of the sources, they’re private and casual like that.
As for this marriage, it would be the second for both. Ewan and Mary Elizabeth got together under…how shall I put this…the kind of circumstances that would have even the most seasoned publicist rubbing their temples and brewing a cup of calming tea. Ewan and Mary Elizabeth co-starred together on the 2017 FX series Fargo, and after pictures were published of them kissing each other, People went ahead and called the time of death on Ewan’s 22-year marriage to Eve Mavrakis (their divorce was filed three months later). Mary Elizabeth had called it quits with her husband of seven years, Riley Stearns, just a few months before those kissing pictures hit the internet.
Ewan and Eve share four daughters together. This brings me to my next point, which is that Ewan and Mary Elizabeth weren’t exactly well-received by at least one of Ewan’s kids in the beginning. Clara McGregor went off on Mary Elizabeth on Instagram (who is about 11 years older than Clara), calling her a number of things, including “trash.” Clara eventually walked back her hate, just a little, but got over it enough to celebrate the birth of her little brother last year.
Because they’re both so private, we’ll likely never see any pictures of their wedding, or what they both wore when they exchanged rings and I do’s. Of course, I want to believe Ewan made Mary Elizabeth his second wife while wearing one of the suits he stole from the set of Halston. But luckily, one of People’s sources can fill in a few of the blanks for us. Picture it, Los Angeles – two casual, yet very rich, beach-loving Hollywood types get married. We’re all picturing silverware tied with twine and a decorative seashell, right?
“It was a small wedding for family and close friends,” the source says. “They had an outdoor ceremony. It was lovely and joyful. The menu was farm-to-table. They are an adorable couple. They are pretty low-key and like their canyon life. They often hike and go to the beach.”
I love the specific addition that their wedding reception had a farm-to-table menu. Like, yes, of course, it was a rustically upscale California food situation. As if we’d all just be assuming those two would have their guests lining up for a McDonald’s cheeseburger buffet and some Costco hot wings, and dunking their hands into a 45-quart styrofoam cooler to grab a cold can of Great Value cola. Although to be fair, that sounds like my idea of a great time.
