Open Post: Hosted By Egg The Kitty’s Reaction To A Harness

April 25, 2022 / Posted by:

There once was a small kitten named Egg. Egg’s humans, Samantha Hogue and her boyfriend Denny Park, lived in Bellevue, Washington. The city’s name is derived from the French term “belle vue” (“beautiful view”). Maybe that’s why Egg’s humans wanted to leash-train him, so he could strut around town and enjoy the sights, like all those lucky dogs! Unfortunately, Egg did not immediately take to his new harness. Fortunately, his reaction was filmed and got him over 280,000 fans on TikTok.

Egg went viral because of his reaction to getting leashed was a pause… and fall. *Does not compute.* Here’s the very cute TikTok:

Apparently, the automatic “fall” response is common for felines trying leashes, via Newsweek:

In fact, Happy Cats Haven explains on its site: “Many cats will fall over or freeze when they feel the harness because it triggers a survival response that they would employ if grabbed by a predator.

So if Egg gets grabbed by a fox or a coyote, he’s just gonna collapse? Oh, Egg. But this actually makes sense. My own kitty, Bob, did the same thing when I tried to leash-train him (just for guided putters around the backyard, my nerves couldn’t take anything more). The moment I put the harness on, he just sort of… flopped. When I pulled the leash, I was dragging his limp body across the floor. He actually cleaned up a lot of dust. Thanks, Bobby!

Egg’s leash video is from last November. Since then, he’s learned to love his leash. Here’s a recent TikTok of a much bigger Egg enjoying the spring sunshine:
