Johnny Depp Might Have Admitted He Cut His Own Finger Off In Audio Presented At His Defamation Trial Against Amber Heard

The messy defamation trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard is still going on, and yesterday, a makeup brand popped up on TikTok to counter claims made in court that Amber used one of its products to cover bruises she says were made by Johnny. Also, yesterday marked day three of Johnny giving testimony in support of his claims that Amber defamed him and ruined his career by falsely accusing him of physically abusing her in an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post. Johnny is suing Amber for $50 million because, as he stated under oath, “Truth is the only thing I’m interested in.” During yesterday’s cross-examination, Amber’s attorney focused his attention on Johnny’s drug and alcohol use (close your ears Disney, Johnny admitted he did cocaine with Wanda Vision‘s Paul Bettany), seemingly in an attempt to show that Johnny’s memories of The Truth are about as reliable as a 5-star review for Mortdecai from a user named @number1johnnydeppfanjusticeforjohnny.

According to The Daily Beast, jurors were treated to photos and audio and video recordings of some of Johnny’s greatest hits including the video Amber took of him trashing his kitchen (Johnny admits “I did assault a couple of cabinets“) while chugging wine out of an Olivia Pope sized goblet, a picture of Johnny passed out with an entire pint of ice cream melting in his lap (Johnny says he was “merely asleep” ) and a rather damning audio recording of Johnny supposedly saying he cut his own finger off. They were also shown an email he sent to his doctor, saying he did it to himself. Johnny had previously asserted that his 2015 finger injury occurred when Amber threw a vodka bottle at him, smashing his finger during a fight over a post-nuptial agreement while in Australia filming Pirates of The Caribbean. Disney, keep those ears closed! The Daily Beast reports:

Johnny Depp faced a major grilling on his third day on the stand Thursday, answering questions about his recreational drug-use with famous celebrities, disturbingly gruesome text messages about Amber Heard, and about head butting his ex-wife.

But in what could prove to be a crucial moment in his $50 million civil defamation trial in Fairfax County, Heard’s lawyers quizzed Depp about how he sustained his now infamous finger injury in 2015. Depp previously testified that he had to undergo surgery after Heard hurled a bottle of vodka at him during an argument in Australia—but jurors were shown a message and heard audio that suggests that the actor may have actually chopped off his own finger.

“I have chopped off my left middle finger as a reminder that I should never cut my finger off again!!” Depp wrote in an email to his doctor, which was shown in court on Thursday.

In a separate audio recording, Depp can be heard saying “I chopped off my finger.” Depp, however, insisted to the court that he heard himself saying, “I got my finger chopped off.”

You know what they say, you can take the man out of a Disney franchise, but that doesn’t mean you can get him to uncover his ears. Here’s Johnny listening back to the recording.

The Daily Beast adds that Amber had previously alleged that Johnny had cut his finger throwing bottles and phones around while on a three-day bender. Her attorney said that the jury will have a chance to hear Amber account later in the trial. So it will be real interesting to see how if differs from Johnny’s version of The Truth as presented on Wednesday. Vanity Fair reports:

According to Depp, the fight eventually escalated. “It was all getting too crazy,” he said. “And again, I had been sober for many, many months from alcohol and substances, aside from the marijuana. And I left the place, the room that I was hiding in—or not hiding—locked myself into. I went downstairs in the house…. And I was a mess. I was a wreck. I was shaking and I just didn’t understand why all this was happening. So I went behind the bar, I grabbed a bottle of vodka that was there and a shot glass and sat at the bar. She was nowhere around, and I poured myself two or three stiff shots of the vodka. First taste of alcohol that I had in a long time. Then she came down to the bar and found me there.”

“She was irate,” he said, describing how the postnup conversation allegedly affected her. “She was irate and she was possessed…. The house that they had rented for me in Australia was quite a large place…with a lot of extra rooms. Well, I’ll just cut to the chase. I think that I ended up blocking myself in at least nine bedrooms, bathrooms that day as she was banging on the doors and screaming obscenities and wanting to have a physical altercation.”

“And of course started screaming, ‘Oh, you’re drinking again.’ The monster and all that.” He said she threw one bottle of vodka at him before reaching for a handle of vodka. After reenacting how he was sitting at the bar, with his hand placed against the table, he said, “She threw the large bottle and it made contact and shattered everywhere. I honestly didn’t feel the pain at first at all. I felt no pain whatsoever. What I felt was, I felt heat. I felt heat. And I felt as if something were dripping down my hand, you know, and then I looked down and realized that the tip of my finger had been severed, and I was looking directly at my bones sticking out and the meaty portion of the inside of your finger and it was blood was just pouring out.”

Johnny testified that the incident caused him to have a “nervous breakdown” which resulted in him mixing blood from his severed finger with paint and going to town scribbling messages on mirrors and a lampshade including the line “Starring Billy Bob and Easy Amber,” meaning Billy Bob Thornton who Amber had just starred in London Fields with. I must say, Johnny does have a remarkable memory for a man whose personal motto is still, to this day, “It’s 5 O’clock somewhere!
