NeNe Leakes Is Suing Andy Cohen And Other Producers Of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” Citing Racism
Apparently, in the aftermath of her firing from The Real Housewives of Atlanta professional TV tyrant NeNe Leakes is not only keeping herself busy by doing a reality show with Stacey Dash but she’s also decided to legally go after Bravo and Andy Cohen. NeNe was on RHoA from the beginning and left the show after season 8 before coming back for season 10. NeNe stuck around for a couple more seasons before her peach was snatched away after season 12. Something tells me that she won’t ever get a peach again and that “something” is the lawsuit she filed against the production companies behind RHOA citing a hostile, racist work environment that began back when the show first started.
This isn’t the first time she’s made these claims. However, according to Yahoo! News NeNe has gathered a legal team including lawyers David deRubertis and Joe Habachy to oversee the lawsuit which names Andy Cohen, NBCUniversal, Bravo, and production companies True Entertainment and Truly Original as defendants. NeNe also alleges that the majority of the racist remarks were hurled at her from former friend and dollar wig aficionado Kim Zolciak-Biermann, although Kim’s name was conveniently left out of the lawsuit. NeNe claims Kim traded her wigs for white hoods and transformed into the Grand Dragon of Atlanta’s KKK chapter during many moments of their inaugural season.
It alleges that during the first season, which aired in 2008, the cast was planning to attend a barbecue, and housewife Kim Zolciak-Biermann, responded to the idea with “words to the effect of: ‘I don’t want to sit around with NeNe and eat chicken.’” The suit says the statement “perpetuated an offensive stereotype about African-Americans.”
The suit says in 2012 during the fifth season, Zolciak-Biermann made “racially offensive and stereotypical” comments about the new home of housewife Kandi Burruss, calling her neighborhood a “ghetto” and perpetuating a racial stereotype in an offensive comment about whether Burruss needed a swimming pool.
In this clip from the season 1 reunion, NeNe briefly gets into the chicken moment and Kim denies she was being racist because she “sees no color.”
I’m sorry I had to post this because Nene saying “We didn’t have chicken. We had lamb and shrimp.” will eternally take me OUT #RHOA pic.twitter.com/7rUr8zFJB7

NeNe also claims in her lawsuit that Kim used the N-word when talking about her and other castmates during an off-camera fight. And there’s more. NeNe’s lawyers want to keep the story going by pointing out how those early years have left her traumatized and waking up in cold sweats.
“From the day the series began filming, NeNe was the target of systemic racism from co-star Kim Zolciak-Biermann, which was tolerated by Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen and other executives,” Leakes’ lawyer David deRubertis said in a statement.
Joe Habachy, another Leakes’ attorney, said via email that “not a day goes by that NeNe doesn’t wake up with an onslaught of overwhelming emotions as a direct result of these unfortunate and avoidable occurrences.”
This lawsuit may bite NeNe in the ass. Because some Twitter users are asking NeNe, “Is this you?” Twitter brought up the time that NeNe called castmate Claudia Jordan a racist term and other fucked-up moments:
I don't support NBCUniversal, but like, I also don't understand how Nene Leakes who repeatedly called Claudia Jordan "a HALF-BREED wh*re" on national television is suing Andy Cohen or Bravo for racism. #RHOA

Was calling a woman a half breed not tearing her down? pic.twitter.com/y7NDUIajht

So if this ever gets to a jury trial (and it probably won’t), the jurors are going to get whiplash from deciding between Messy NeNe or Messy Andy. The court better give every juror a neckbrace before the trial starts.
