Prince Harry Avoided Talking About Prince Charles Or Prince William During An Interview With “Today”

One of the biggest songs to come out of this year is “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto, but if Prince Harry had his own version that he hums along to while fixing his morning cup of tea, it might be something like “We Don’t Talk About My Bro (And Depending On My Mood, Maybe Also My Dad).” Because Harry isn’t exactly on the best terms with his brother at the moment, and would likely rather undergo a complete beard transplant without so much as a regular-strength Tylenol than talk about his brother Prince William. Still, Hoda Kotb of Today talked with Harry about the Invictus Games and Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK, and she tried it. Unfortunately for her, Harry successfully dodged a question involving Harry’s current relationship with William and Prince Charles.

Hoda caught up with Harry about all sorts of things that are currently in Harry’s mental orbit, like the aforementioned Invictus Games, as well as Harry and Meghan’s recent meeting with Queen Elizabeth. Harry revealed that he and Meghan met “for tea” with his granny, and that they did the kind of light-hearted joke-filled chatting that left Liz in stitches (not literally, although who knows what one could possibly break or strain while laughing too heartily at the age of nearly 96). When asked by Hoda if he will be returning to the UK for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June, Harry replied that he isn’t totally sure about that, because of his security concerns. Harry has stated numerous times that he doesn’t feel safe bringing his kids, Archie and Lilibet, to the UK to visit his family, and that he’d love to pay for his own security, but that the UK won’t let him do that. And since the UK hasn’t reversed their stance on the matter, it’s looking like Harry and his family could be staying home in California on Jubilee weekend. via NBC News:

Prince Harry said he wanted to return to the United Kingdom for Queen Elizabeth II’s upcoming platinum jubilee and so his children could spend time with their great-grandmother, but warned that “security issues” could get in the way. “I don’t know yet. There’s a lot of things, with security issues and everything else.”

Harry said he was “trying to make it possible” to return to the U.K. with his children, Archie and Lilibet, so they can get to know his home country and spend time with Elizabeth, who turns 96 Thursday. Lilibet, who was born in the United States in June, has not met her great-grandmother and other members of the royal family.

Harry didn’t exactly divulge his potential travel itinerary for June, but he didn’t play it vague either. It sounds like he’s working on the security issue, and that he would like to cart his whole family to Britain so his kids can visit with their ultra-famous Great Granny. But one thing he didn’t want to discuss in such detail was William and Charles. Hoda asked Harry if he liked being back home in the UK, and he said he did, but that home for him is now Montecito, California. Hoda followed up by asking if Harry, who stepped down as a senior royal a little over two years ago, missed his “family at home.” You know what she means. Harry did too, which is why he avoided answering like a champ. via Newsweek:

“Yes, I think especially over the last two years for most people, have they not missed their families? Right? The inability to be able to get home and see them,” he said.

However, he appeared to swerve when Hoda asked explicitly, “But do you miss your brother, your dad?”

“Look,” he said. “I mean…at the moment, I’m here focused on these guys [at the Invictus Games] and these families and giving everything I can, 120% to them to make sure that they have the experience of a lifetime. That’s my focus here. And when I leave here, I go back, and my focus is my family, who I miss massively. Of course I do. They’re two little people.”

A near-perfect deflection if I ever heard one! Maybe Hoda did catch Harry by surprise when she point-blank asked him if he misses his brother and father. There could be a take that was edited out of Harry’s interview where Harry blurts out, “NO!“, followed by, “Uh…can we take that one again? That’s not usable footage by order of…me.”

It all goes down at the 6:36 mark below:
