Johnny Depp Testified Today In His Defamation Trial Against Amber Heard

Johnny Depp’s big courtroom Oscar clip scene shot today as he took the stand to testify in his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Johnny mustered all the energy a 58-year-old man with a tiny ponytail who has spent the past year submerged in his own bullshit can muster while (allegedly) abstaining from cocaine, to proudly swear that he’s “obsessed with truth.” Only, unlike Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men, Johnny not only thinks we can handle it, but The Truth is the only thing he’s interested in.

As we know, Johnny is suing Amber for defamation (and $50 million) after Amber wrote a 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post accusing him of domestic abuse that she alleged took place over the course of their relationship. Amber and Johnny met in 2011 on the set of The Rum Diaries, got married in 2015, got divorced in 2016, and have been trading in international fuckery ever since. According to Variety:

Johnny Depp took the stand on Tuesday afternoon in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, saying he was focused on “clearing the record” regarding allegations that he engaged in domestic violence.

“Truth is the only thing i’m interested in. Lies will get you nowhere, but lies build upon lies and build upon lies,” Depp said. “I’m obsessed with the truth.”

Under questioning from his own lawyer, Depp denied that he had ever been violent with Heard, or with any other woman.

“I felt it my responsibility to stand up not only for myself in that instance, but stand up for my children,” Depp testified, speaking very deliberately on the witness stand. “I thought it was diabolical that my children would have to go to school and have their friends or people in the school approach them with the infamous People magazine cover with Ms. Heard with a dark bruise on her face.”

Depp said the allegations against him were “quite heinous and disturbing,” and “not based in any species of truth.”

“It’s very strange when one day, you’re Cinderella and in 0.6 seconds you’re Quasimodo,” he said.

Johnny played Cinderella and I missed it? And isn’t Quasimodo a good guy? He must be speaking metaphorically because The Truth is that he doesn’t have the range. Speaking of range, Johnny also used his literal platform to regale the court with tales of his method when it comes to creating a character.

Depp also spoke about his acting career, and about how he developed the character of Captain Jack Sparrow for the first “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. He said he drew inspiration from Bugs Bunny and Wile E. Coyote cartoons, saying he felt that cartoon characters could push boundaries while appealing to all ages.

“It’s like making a soup, y’know,” he said. “It’s just ingredients. There’s some Pepe Le Pew in there. There’s some Keith Richards in there.”

RIP Inside The Actors Studio, it would have been a whole lot cheaper if he just could have denied Amber’s allegations there. Johnny also spoke about being physically abused as a child in Kentucky saying that his mother used to beat him with her high-heeled shoe.

As for the dark-sided text messages Johnny sent about Amber that have come out during this, and his previous trial against The Sun, Johnny says he’s ashamed of “some of the references” he made, like calling Amber a cunt and talking about how he hoped her “rotting corpse is decomposing in the fucking trunk of a Honda Civic.” Johnny said “I am embarrassed that at the time — the heat of the moment, the heat of pain — what I was feeling went to dark places.” Johnny also talked about his drug use:

“I’ve taken these substances on and off to numb myself — to numb myself of the ghosts, the wraiths that were still with me from my youth,” he said. “It was essentially self-medication, one of those ‘get me out of here’ moments, where what you want to escape from is your own brain, your own head.”

But he recoiled at Heard’s depiction of “my quote unquote substance abuse,” saying that her account is “grossly embellished,” and a lot of it is false.

“I am not some maniac who needs to be high or loaded all the time,” he said.

Well, except for the times when he needed to be high or loaded all the time because he was, admittedly, addicted to Roxicodone, a pain medication he was prescribed after he broke his hand manically throwing a chair on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

He described the addiction as a “monkey on your back,” and said he was on the pills for four to five years, or more.

So that’s Johnny’s The Truth. Tomorrow, Amber’s lawyers will have the chance to challenge it during cross-examination and I’m sure he’ll continue to stick with The Truth. This is also great news for his many many fans who no longer have to hold their nose when getting an autographed signed. They can just tell him, “Dude, you were great in Pirates, but your breath is making my eyes water. Plus I’m going to be selling this on eBay so could you sign this ‘To my dearest friend Keith, thanks for the memories’ in blood? Thanks, Johnny!” Don’t worry, he can handle it! He swore it under oath.
