“The Crown” Is Looking To Cast A Young Kate Middleton, But Sources Say She Won’t Be Worried

The BREAKING ROYAL NEWS is that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are staying in London a few days before they fly to the Netherlands for Saturday’s Invictus Games. TMZ is reporting that the couple had a meeting with THE QUEEN and Prince Charles, “in what’s clearly an attempt to smooth things over.” Oh no! Will this overshadow the very exciting news re: Duchess Kate Middleton and The Crown?!  No, nothing can top this news.

The fifth season of the Netflix show comes out this November. It will tackle the nineties. Presumably Princess Diana’s final years, THE QUEEN’S annus horribilis, and Fergie’s deal with Weight Watchers. Because the creatives behind The Crown work harder than Prince Andrew’s PR team, the sixth and final season of the show is already in pre-production. Last week Netflix put out a casting call for a “stunning” actress who can play a young Kate Middleton.

The sixth season will begin filming in August. It will be set from 1997 to the early 2000s, which is when William and Kate first met at St. Andrew’s University. A source tells The Sun that The Crown is looking to cast a Duchess Kate lookalike, and it probably won’t be a huge role:

“Having the Duchess of Cambridge starring is an easy win for The Crown, as the creators know it will get more people watching. Particularly as it will show her relationship with William just as their romance starts to blossom when they were both students.

“But since she’s not necessarily a crucial part of the storyline, Kate’s presence is essentially a bonus, they’ll only cast someone if they can find the right candidate.”

The news comes a month after the show announced they were looking to cast “exceptional young actors” to play Prince William and Prince Harry, aged 16-21. Casting directors targeted high schools, drama clubs, and universities across the UK. No previous acting experience was required, and the Sun reports that production was focused on casting youths with a “strong physical resemblance.” Calling all gingers and future balds!

About a week after Kate’s casting call went out, former royal butler Grant Harrold has informed The Daily Mail that the Duchess “doesn’t have much to worry about” being included on The Crown, because “her image is perfect”:

‘At the end of the day, it’s PR. Some bits are historical and some bits are drama – the palace has always been keen to remind people it is drama.

‘It will be positive. So they may well see it as good PR. There will be an interest for them and she is likely to come face to face with the actress that plays her at some point at an event.’

Is this guy really bragging about Kate’s pristine image just two weeks after her and William’s disastrous Carribean tour? Yeesh, open up a newspaper sometime.

Well, if The Crown’s casting department comes up short, might I suggest re-purposing clips from 2011’s Lifetime classic, William & Kate: The Movie?:

Not to be confused with Hallmark’s William & Catherine: A Royal Romance (co-starring Victor Garber?!), which came out the same year. Capote vs. Infamous all over again!
