Molly Shannon Says She Was Sexually Harassed By Gary Coleman

Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon has one hell of a messy story regarding men in power making unwanted sexual advances. During an interview with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show, Molly brought up an incident at the beginning of her career when pint-sized comedian, the late Gary Coleman, wanted to perform a different kind of stroke with Molly. And she basically had to fight him off like a gazelle versus a tiny lion.

Molly told this story a long time ago on Conan O’Brien’s show, and she laughed about it, and kind of laughed about it with Howard. But I’m sure it was very traumatizing for Molly to ask, “What you talkin’ ’bout Gary?” Variety reports that during Molly’s interview with Howard, he asked her about the time she signed with Gary’s agent Mark Randall at the beginning of her career. She was then afforded the opportunity to meet Gary at his spacious penthouse. At some point during the evening, Mark left the two of them alone. And that’s when things got really weird, awkward, fucked-up, and assault-ey.

“I think he was like, ‘Sit down [on the bed].’ It was very sweet,” Shannon said. “And then he’s, like, tickling me a little. This and that.”

Shannon told Coleman that she was “a virgin” and she tried “to be polite” about turning down his advances. Coleman allegedly only became more aggressive with her.

“He was relentless,” Shannon said. “Then, he was like trying to kiss me and get on top and I was like, ‘No, Gary. Stop.’ So, I push him off. Then, I would get off the bed. Then, he would bounce on the bed. Jump, jump, jump. And wrap himself around me. Then, I would fling him off. And then he got on top of me. I guess because of his size I didn’t feel physically threatened. But … it was going on and on. Repeating. I would throw him off, he would get back on.”

Molly continued, saying things got even stranger as she rose to her feet.

“He grabs me onto my leg and I was like [trying to] kick him off,” Shannon continued. “And then, I go lock myself in the bathroom and then he sticks his hands under the door. And he’s like, ‘I can see you.’”

Luckily Molly was able to open the bathroom door and leap high enough over Gary to make her exit from his Penthouse of Unwanted Pleasure. And even though we’ll never hear Gary’s side of the story it’s fine because we don’t need it. Hearing Molly’s version was traumatizing enough.
