Ben Affleck And Jennifer Lopez Aren’t Buying A $55 Million Bel-Air Estate After All

What a bummer! And I was so close to ordering them a 24-karat gold-plated emerald-encrusted hand-engraved toaster as a housewarming present. Only the finest and tackiest for a $55 million estate! (I swear, I totally had it in my shopping cart, honest). I’m going to have to put that housewarming gift off for the time being, because contrary to what had been reported last month, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are not, in fact, currently moving into a $55 million Bel-Air love nest. So, anyone who had several million dollars in their pocket who really wanted to score a $55 million Bel-Air estate, now is your chance. It hasn’t been bought by Bennifer yet.
Last month it was reported that Ben and JLo had haggled their way into a 20,000 square foot multi-million dollar estate in the Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, getting the asking price down from $65 million to $55 million, and they reportedly got it from a Texas billionaire. The deal wasn’t quite finalized, but according to TMZ, it was pretty much theirs. Except…it’s not, apparently. TMZ is now walking back that story, saying that the deal was in escrow, but it’s out of escrow, and it’s a no-go for JLo…and Ben. Sorry, I just really wanted that all to rhyme. Also, anyone thinking this is the beginning of the end of Bennifer can relax. It sounds like it’s pretty drama-free. via TMZ:
It’s back to the mega-mansion drawing board for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez … we’ve learned they’ll no longer be moving into a $55 million estate in Bel-Air.
Sources close to the seller tell us … the deal fell out of escrow. Unclear exactly what triggered the collapse, but a buyer is always able to pull out during an inspection period … so Ben and Jen pretty clearly decided there was something they didn’t like about the pad.
Additionally, Ben and JLo are still on the hunt for a house. So to all the negative nellies and pessimistic pattys, Jennifer Lopez wasn’t just casually strolling around a home store last week because she was hoping a photographer would snap a picture of the debut of her massive green engagement ring. They reportedly looked at two additional homes this weekend with some of Ben’s kids, one in Bel-Air that is listed at $64 million and another for $72 million.

There goes my theory that Ben and JLo ditched the $55 million house because they needed to save some cash for what will likely be an over-the-top opulent wedding day spectacle. It turns out they’re now looking at even more expensive properties. Maybe they did the math on how much they could make off their exclusive wedding day pictures. With all that extra cash, surely they could spring right now for an additional 8,000 square feet and much gaudier custom-carved crown molding.
