Kanye West Has Dropped Out Of Coachella 2022

Well, that was fast. Any Coachella 2022 ticket holders who were excited to see headliner Kanye West take the stage and possibly give a mid-set spoken-word performance of a slam poem titled, “Beat it, Skete,” is going to no doubt be very disappointed today. Three months after Kanye was announced as one of this year’s Coachella headliners, we’re learning that he’s dropped out. No one seems to know why, but there’s a lot of speculation.

Sources tell TMZ that Kanye will be a no-show at this year’s Coachella, which is scheduled for the weekends of April 15-17, and April 22-24. Kanye was scheduled to take the stage on April 17th, but again, that’s not happening. And it sounds like he’s taking Travis Scott with him.

Sources connected to Ye tell us he’s decided to pull the plug on his performance at the 2-weekend-long event in Indio, CA – which starts next weekend. What’s more, we’re told Travis Scott was supposed to join Kanye onstage … so that’s now out of the question as well.

Travis Scott was originally rumored to be headlining Coachella, but that plan was dashed after the Astroworld tragedy in Houston, TX back in November. It was rumored that Kanye would likely bring out Travis as a special surprise guest.

Now we get to the WHY? of the situation. According to sources who spoke with Page Six, it’s because Kanye has finally taken a good look at (gestures broadly) everything he’s been up to over the past month or so, and has realized that it’s time to retreat into the shadows for some much needed Ye Time. Kanye has been doing what many would consider online stalking and harassing to his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, as well as her new boyfriend Pete Davidson. Eventually, The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah got involved, saying that what Kanye was doing was dangerous, to which Kanye responded by calling Trevor a racial slur and finding himself banned from Instagram for 24 hours. Sources claim that Kanye informed Kim that he was due for a mental health break. via Page Six:

A source close to the Kardashians said, “For the sake of the kids, Kanye has told Kim he’s not making any public appearances or inflammatory social media statements, and he will go away somewhere to get better.”

The source added that it wasn’t clear if West, 44, planned to go into a treatment facility, as he has stayed in Los Angeles to be with his and Kardashian’s four kids.

If that’s all true, then there is some evidence that Kanye was good on his word. After being denied a spot to perform at the Grammys last night, Kanye was still given an invitation to come, but he didn’t show up. But, according to Yahoo! News, that bit about going somewhere to get better isn’t the truth at all. Not only that, but Page Six’s source was likely just regurgitating Kardashian family PR bullshit, according to Kanye’s new Head of Media and Partnerships.

West’s new Head of Media and Partnerships, Jason Lee, told Yahoo in an April 1 statement that this narrative is not accurate.

“Ye monitors all headlines pertaining to him and his family daily. Most all are being fed to media by ‘sources close to the Kardashians,’ which have been creating a false narrative that not only is untrue but further compromises his goal of creating a healthy environment for the beautiful children he shares with Kim,” Lee said. “He’s been focused on taking care of himself, being a present and loving father and a creative genius well before all the false headlines we’ve seen as recent.”

Lee added that while Ye does not respond to many headlines, the story about the conversation with Kim is “simply untrue.”

“If you don’t hear it from his mouth, read it from his social media, or get it from a press release he approved it’s simply false,” Lee concluded.

Yahoo! News reached out to the Kardashians for a comment, but they received nothing.

There is another possible reason why Kanye is quitting Coachella. The official 2022 lineup was supposed to be Kanye, Harry Styles, and Billie Eilish. After a video hit the internet showing Billie pausing a concert to help an audience member that needed a moment, which she has been known to do, Kanye demanded that Billie publicly apologize to Travis Scott for what she did. Kanye saw Billie’s act of stopping in the middle of her show to check on distressed fans as a direct slam against Travis, who kept performing at Astroworld as fans were begging the show to be stopped. Kanye said he’d quit Coachella if Billie didn’t apologize, which Billie stated in no uncertain terms that she was not going to do. Billie might be okay with this news. She doesn’t have to worry about any hecklers that just so happen to sound like Kanye in the middle of her set, telling her she should apologize to Travis Scott for her encore.
