Open Post: Hosted By The High Schooler Who Took His Great-Grandma To Prom

April 2, 2022 / Posted by:

As a wise man once said, “Prom night is the bomb night.” It’s a heady evening filled with stunning dresses, dancing, and a sloppy make-out session or two. The last part doesn’t apply to high-schooler Dakota Wollman though, because his date was someone way better than the head cheerleader: his great-grandma, Madeline Miller! Proms are for memaws, too!

While you were pining after that popular chick or football guy (or goth guy, I don’t know your preferences), some people thought that grandma would be a much cooler date. And they’re right! via KWWL:

A high school senior gives his 92-year-old great grandma a night to remember, by taking her as his prom date.

Dakota Wollman and his great-grandmother, Madeline Miller, attended the dance at Watford City High School in Watford City, North Dakota over the weekend.

Madeline called it a perfect night, saying she felt like the “belle of the ball.”

“Walking beside my great grandson, listening to this music as we walked and people clapping and hollering,” said Madeline.

Dakota said “we walked out on the floor, and everyone just went wild.”

Dakota and Madeline danced together for the first dance, and then Dakota took his date home.

This was the first prom either of them had attended.

First prom? Does that mean Madeline didn’t make it to her own prom?! Thank God this travesty has been remedied. You can’t have a 92-year-old who has never been to prom sit at home alone! To be fair, she probably had lots of offers but had to go with her great-grandson. Imagine making an entrance like that into your high school gymnasium. All of the girls probably were green with envy when Madeline showed them how to bring it in her lavender gown! Hopefully, this doesn’t start a trend of bringing meemaws to prom, though. No one would be able to compete!
