Britney Spears Says That Her Real-Life Mom Was Worse Than Her Fake Mom From “Crossroads”

In the grand pantheon of ultra-shitty movie mothers, there’s Faye Dunaway’s Joan Crawford, and then everyone else underneath that. Your mileage may vary! Some people are going to rank some awful moms higher or lower than others, but Britney Spears has the unique distinction of having actual real-life experience with one of said crappy movie mothers. And because of this, she could effectively compare her own mom Lynne Spears against her on-screen mom. Which Britney recently did. And the bad news for Lynne is that it sounds like Britney would have rather traded places with her Crossroads counterpart and lived with her crappy absentee mom played by Kim Cattrall.

Crossroads is about three high school seniors named Lucy, Kit, and Mimi who decided to take a road trip to find ~themselves~ but also to find Lucy’s mom who skipped town when she was three years old. Lucy (played by Britney) eventually tracks down her mama (played by Kim Cattrall) in Tucson, Arizona, and Lucy doesn’t get the heartwarming reunion she was hoping for. Instead, her mother is basically like, “Sorry, you were a whoopsie baby, and I have a new family now. Thanks for visiting beautiful Tucson! Please don’t slam the door too hard on your way out.” And according to Britney, having a mom who wasn’t there might have been the better option for her personally. Britney’s revelation happened during a trip down memory lane yesterday on Instagram. She posted a clip from what she describes as “a movie I did a ways back,” which is extremely humble of Britney to assume we aren’t all intimately familiar with her work in Crossroads. Then explains that her sad scenes with the mom who didn’t want her are nothing compared to what was happening behind the camera.

“Scene in a movie I did a ways back!!! When I realized my whole journey to find my mom…and she doesn’t want to see me!!! I know…PRETTY FUCKING SAD!!! Psss I mean it’s actually less worse than what my mom did to me in real life so…”

Britney has previously blamed her mother Lynne for being the mastermind behind Britney’s 13-year-long conservatorship (the previous assumption was that it was her dad Jamie Spears who was pulling all the initial conservatorship strings). Britney has stated that she wants her family brought to justice for the alleged shit they put her through during those 13 years of hardcore life control, so maybe Britney’s lawyers have advised her not to spill too many dirty details in her Instagram captions. Then again, it’s also been reported that Britney has signed a $15 million tell-all book deal, so maybe there’s also a publisher in her ear whispering, “Save some of it for the first chapter, Britney!“.

Clearly, Britney is still feeling a lot of damaged feelings when it comes to her relationship with her real mom, Lynne. But objectively, how can Lynne deny what Britney is implying in that caption? All allegations aside, Britney’s mom literally responded to Britney’s accusation that her family was a bunch of leeches by asking Britney to cover $650,000 of Lynne’s legal fees. Unless wait – was there was a scene cut from Crossroads where Kim Cattrall’s character tells Lucy to hit the road, but stops her first and asks how much cash she’s got in her wallet that I forgot about?
