Open Post: Hosted By Anne Hathaway Saying “Nothing From Me” When Asked To Give Advice To This Year’s Oscar Hosts

The 2011 Academy Awards were considered to be a disaster and that ceremony was co-hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco. Hosting the Oscars with James Franco was reportedly as pleasant for Anne as it was for all of us watching at home. So when Anne was asked to give advice to this year’s Oscars hosts, she decided that the best advice to give would be no advice at all.

After going host-less for the past three years, this year’s Academy Awards will be hosted by Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, and Regina Hall. There has only been one other female host since Anne hosted back in 2011. That would be Ellen DeGeneres, and I’m pretty sure the only advice Ellen should be giving on anything, is how to successfully breathe while keeping your head in the sand about allegations of running a toxic workplace. But Variety’s Marc Malkin got to Anne first, at the Los Angeles premiere of the Apple TV+ series WeCrashed, and he asked her if she had any advice for Wanda, Amy, and Regina. Nope, nothing from Anne!

Anne is being far too hard on herself. Anne was an enthusiastic participant in the collaboration process, while James…wasn’t. You don’t have to look very far to find a source willing to say that Anne was up for anything while James didn’t seem that into it. So when Anne said she had no advice to give to Wanda, Amy, and Regina, she was being polite. Because you know Anne wanted to lean into Marc Malkin’s mike and scream, “If they suggest a bit with James Franco, RUN! Find the nearest exit and LEAVE!
