Jessica Chastain May Skip The Oscars Red Carpet To Support “The Eyes Of Tammy Faye” Makeup Team

This year, eight categories have been cut the Oscars live telecast to try to get people to watch the whole thing. Yes, cutting awards from a show that solely exists to hand out awards makes sense! Several filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and Guillermo Del Toro have slammed the move. Now Jessica Chastain, who is nominated for Best Actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, tells The Next Best Picture podcast that she wants to be present when the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling (one of the eight awards that will be given before the live telecast) is handed out since the team from Eyes of Tammy Faye is up for it. So Jessica may miss out on being asked, “What are your thoughts on the situation in Ukraine? Also, who are wearing?” by Laverne Cox and other entertainment reporters on the red carpet. I mean, that’s actually a bonus in itself.

The eight categories that Oscar producers don’t think are worthy enough for the live telecast include Best Documentary Short Subject, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Animated Short Film, Best Live Action Short Film, and Best Sound. Although, clips from the winners’ speeches will be played during the main 17-hour long telecast, which airs on March 27. Jessica says that she will be sitting in the audience when Best Makeup and Hairstyling is presented so you may not see her ass on the red carpet. via THR:

“I will absolutely be present when the makeup category is being called, and if that means I’m not doing press on the red carpet for ABC or whatever it is, then so be it,” she said. “The most important thing for me is to honor the incredible artisans who work in our industry.”

She went on to say that while above-the-line talent like actors is typically seen as “the face” of a performance, it’s the work of those in a film’s makeup and hair departments that makes a performance.

“So much attention is on the actor. We’re like the face in some way because you go to a movie and see us,” she explained. “But a lot of people don’t understand how beyond an actor a performance is.”

Jessica is a Best Actress frontrunner after winning the Screen Actors’ Guild Award and the Critics Choice Award. So she could take things further if she wins the Best Actress Oscar. After giving her own speech, she could say, “Okay, now all the winners from the eight categories that were shafted from the live broadcast, get up here and give your speech again for the people at home!”  Hearing the blood-curdling screams of the producers would probably be the most entertaining thing about this year’s show!
