Anna Sorokin Has Probably Been Deported To Germany

Netflix’s Inventing Anna is all about how Anna “Delvey” Sorokin pretended to be a German heiress and fooled a bunch of powerful people, banks, and others into thinking she had a $60 million trust fund and was going to open a huge Manhattan social club. That obviously didn’t happen, and what did happen was she scammed her friends, banks, and luxury hotels. Anna ended up in prison over it and then found herself in ICE custody. Now her lawyer says he can’t get in touch with her and believes that she’s in the process of being deported. Or maybe she just escaped ICE detention by slipping out an air vent? Maybe Anna is an escape artist as well as a scam artist? Probably not, though.

Anna got paid $320,000 from Netflix for her help but she isn’t taking it back with her to Germany. After being sentenced to 4-12 years in prison, Anna served 3-ish and was released on parole for good behavior in March 2021 before getting picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for overstaying her VISA. She was in ICE detention in New Jersey, and the Netflix cash went to restitution, fines, and attorney fees, but now her lawyer, Manny Arora, says he can’t even find her. This probably means one thing: Anna’s on her way to being sent back to Germany. (via NBC News)

The attorney, Manny Arora, said he had not been able to contact Sorokin, 31, Monday afternoon.

“Legally, they should not be able to deport her until the 19th. That is due to the deportation order being signed on February 17 and that allows us to have 30 days to file an appeal,” Arora said in a statement. “But we are dealing with bureaucracy, and there are numerous filings in her case so you just never know if there was a paperwork error. I haven’t heard from Miss Sorokin this afternoon, and so I am working under the presumption that she is being deported.”

ICE did not respond to a request for comment.

…Sorokin’s best friend, Neffatari Davis, who also worked on Inventing Anna and was a character in the show, told the New York Post that Sorokin has paid her dues.

“She got out on good behavior and she used the money Netflix gave her to pay everybody back. She owes no money,” Davis said. “She’s paid for her crimes. She didn’t kill anyone. She did wrong, but, at the end of the day, there are people who have done worse.”

Anna did cause a bit of a fuss for ICE, as she was part of a class-action lawsuit against them for refusing to give COVID-19 vaccines to inmates. The suit was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and in it, Anna says she caught Coronavirus after being denied multiple requests for booster shots.

I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before Anna becomes some kind of media darling in Germany. Or she’ll just go to some other country and live the high life. Maybe she’ll start dating the Tinder Swindler and make society implode as they swindle the international community? Talk about a power couple!
