Jamie Lee Curtis Lets “It Out” In Her New Movie Because She Wanted Her Character To Look As Real As Possible

Jamie Lee Curtis really gives us a range of looks. She can serve Uber Sexy MILF Realness, and also REAL Realness. In her new movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once, she plays an IRS inspector and Jamie says that she wanted to look as “real” as possible. So she pushed the Spanx away and let herself breathe. Today, Jamie is getting headlines for her normal stomach, but when are we going to talk about the three anal plug awards behind her? Is that an award an IRS auditor gets after really giving it to a tax cheater? We need answers.

Entertainment Weekly says that EEAAO is a science-fiction-action-comedy-drama (Jesus, enough genres?) that stars Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn Wang, a stressed-out laundromat manager who ends up becoming a superhero who fights to defeat evil. Jamie plays Deidre Beaubeirdra, an IRS auditor. It was co-directed by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan. Daniel S. says that they based her 70s craft teacher outfit and Granny Edna Mode hair on a real-life government employee who was in a photo that Daniel K. found online.

“Immediately after signing up, she would text us photos of weird outfits and weird hairdos… There was one photo of an IRS auditor that Dan Kwan had found online–I mean, maybe she worked in a DMV, I don’t know–but this one photo, Jamie was like, “That’s incredible, please let me be her–please, please, please, please.” And that photo became the reference for the hairdo and the outfit.”

Daniel K. also wants everyone to know that Jamie didn’t go the Renee Zellweger route by wearing a rubber belly. Jamie wanted to just “let it out” and was grateful for that. And Jamie jumped at the chance to keep it real since she was sick of sucking in her stomach for over 50 years.

“I wanted to just be truthful to this woman. In the world, there is an industry–a billion-dollar, trillion-dollar industry–about hiding things. Concealers. Body-shapers. Fillers. Procedures. Clothing. Hair accessories. Hair products. Everything to conceal the reality of who we are. And my instruction to everybody was: I want there to be no concealing of anything.

I’ve been sucking my stomach in since I was 11, when you start being conscious of boys and bodies, and the jeans are super tight. I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal.”

The movie premieres today at the SXSW Festival in Austin and will open to a limited release on March 25 with a full release on April 8. Here’s the trailer:

First, Jamie Lee Curtis hawked the poop-inducing gut health yogurt Activia (although, the FTC side-eyed those gut health claims) and now she’s happily freeing her stomach. JLC is the Queen of the Gut!
