Cardi B Dropped Out Of The Movie “Assisted Living” Just Days Before Production Was Supposed To Begin
A little over a year ago, we learned that Cardi B was cast in a comedy called Assisted Living, where she was set to play a woman who disguises herself as an old lady and hides out in her grandma’s nursing home after a heist goes wrong. But you won’t see Cardi B in a grey wig and a set of saggy rubber boobs on the screen because she’s dropped out.
Deadline reports Paramount’s Assisted Living (not to be confused with Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living) was all set to begin filming next week, which definitely paints a picture of how far along things were regarding production on Assisted Living. I bet whoever was playing the skeptical orderly had already been fitted twice for their white leather no-scuff nursing home sneakers (I assume that’s a character in this movie, there’s always a skeptical orderly when it comes to assisted living facilities). The film was set to be directed by Thembi Banks on a $30 million production budget. Thembi and company will have to find a new star since Cardi is no longer involved. And there’s no mystery as to why Cardi B suddenly quit. Cardi left the movie because she’s “overextended” at the moment.
The cast and crew were told that the movie is off for now. One source says that Paramount is hoping to get production back up and running later this year, which means there’s a chance Assisted Living isn’t shuffling off this mortal coil just yet.
That doesn’t mean this situation couldn’t potentially get messy. Deadline points out that usually when a movie star pulls out of production so close to filming, there could be legal repercussions, like a breach of contract lawsuit. If only there was a solution that served Cardi’s alleged need for rest and allowed all the cast and crew to carry on as planned next week. Maybe they could just shoot a bunch of reaction shots? Assisted Living sounded like the type of movie that would definitely have a crowd of elderly seniors cheering Cardi-in-disguise as she throws it back at the Friday afternoon jitterbug shuffle. Maybe even a shot of an old man so shocked at Cardi’s twerking that his dentures fall out. She doesn’t need to be on set for any of that!
