Open Post: Hosted By The Trailer For “The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent” Starring Nicolas Cage As Nicolas Cage

His hairline? High and tight. His beard? Trimmed and dyed to perfection. With clear eyes and full heart, Nicolas Cage simply cannot lose playing the role he was born to play— Himself. Move over John Malkovich, there’s a new enigmatic self-deprecating/depicting loony-toon on the scene and he’s struggling with (and starring in!) The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Well, actually on second thought, get in here, John! We need a Con Air reunion stat!

While we were all eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Lohannaisane, Nic Cage has been quietly mounting his own Niccagesurrection. Fresh/Off of his critically acclaimed performance in Pig, Nic’s back with a new movie that doesn’t make you say “damn, how broke is he?” According to Uproxx, in TUBWOMT Nic plays a down on his luck actor whose agent, played by that guy who played Neil Patrick Harris in Harold & Kumar, books him a gig at the birthday party of a mega-wealthy super-fan played by Pedro Pascal. Here’s the synopsis.

Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal). Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nicolas Cage.

It wouldn’t be a Nic Cage joint if he doesn’t also need to steal a highly protected document for the very simple reason that otherwise there wouldn’t be a movie. Only this time, instead of stealing the U.S. Constitution, Nic Cage IS the National Treasure. Here’s the trailer.

I’m sorry but as fun as this looks, I’m incensed by one glaring omission to the cast. How are you going to have Nic Cage playing himself in a movie that involves wigs, intrigue, and espionage without creating a role for Nic’s 4th wife of 96 days, International Woman of Mystery, and my personal shero Erika Koike? If this is supposed to be reflective of Nic’s life and career then where is Erika? Serious question, where is she? She’s barely on social media and I need to know what My Queen has been up to.
