Gigi Hadid Showed Support For Ukraine And Palestine, And Vogue Edited Out “Palestine” From Her Statement

As many celebrities have done ever since Putin declared war on Ukraine, Gigi Hadid showed support for Ukrainians and vowed to donate everything she made from walking in shows during the Fall 2022 fashion season to the country. But Gigi’s donation will not only go to helping Ukraine, but it will also go to helping Palestine (where her father is from), which has been in conflict with Israel for decades. Vogue reported on Gigi’s actions, but after getting shit for it, they made sure to edit out Palestine from Gigi’s message.

Gigi and Bella Hadid‘s father, Mohamed Hadid, is Palestinian and was born in the country before his family fled in the 1948 Palestinian Exodus, becoming refugees. Both Bella and Gigi have been very vocal about their support of Palestine. And Gawker says that at the end of this past Fashion Month, Gigi hopped on her social media to let the people know that she’s donating all of her earnings from this season to aid Ukraine and Palestine.

When Vogue first reported on Gigi’s donations, they included both mentions of Ukraine and Palestine. But soon the Instagram post mentioning Palestine was edited to no longer reference it.

Vogue also wrote about Gigi’s support on their website but edited out one reference to Palestine. Vogue’s move had a lot to do with criticism over Gigi’s post. Actress Emmanuelle Chriqui from Entourage called Vogue “anti-Semitic” for repeating Gigi’s comparison. And a Vogue source tells Page Six that the magazine “condemns anti-Semitism,” and that the post was “directly quoting [Hadid]” admitting it has since “been updated.”

This is not the first time that Gigi was criticized for defending Palestine. Last year, a full-page ad was published in The New York Times and it called for the condemnation of the Hadids and Dua Lipa for supporting Palestine.

Gigi seemingly responded to any criticism people may have been sending her way for comparing the conflicts, as she posted another story of an article saying: “Ukrainians resisting Russian occupation with Molotov cocktails are being lauded for their bravery, while stone-throwing Palestinian children are still called terrorists.”

Good thing Gigi Hadid has already been on the cover of Vogue a million times because after this their relationship may be a bit frayed. Anna Wintour probably wants zero controversies involved with her magazine lest some angry people picket outside her townhouse again.
