Taron Egerton Says He’s “Completely Fine” After He Fainted During A Performance Of The Play “Cock”
Rocketman‘s Taron Egerton is currently playing gay again in a play called Cock, which was written by Mike Bartlett and started performances last week at the Ambassadors Theater in London. He’s already danced sexy in a towel to get us excited for the West End show. In it, he plays a gay man whose partner ends up falling in love with a woman. It also stars Jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton as Taron’s boyfriend who falls for a woman played by Jade Anouka. And there was a scary moment during the play’s first performance on Saturday night when Taron ended up passing out. But Taron is fine and will be back on the Cock this week.
Taron managed to make it through three of the four acts of Cock, but as Huffington Post reports, toward the end of the show, things came to a “brief halt” when Taron collapsed on-stage. The safety curtain was brought down and a doctor who happened to be in the audience went to check on Taron. The director of the show, Marianne Elliott, let the audience know that Taron was “absolutely fine,” and his understudy, Joel Harper-Jackson took over for the remainder of the play. The Guardian says that Taron posted an Instagram Story yesterday to assure everyone that he was fine and to thank Joel for stepping in:
“I am completely fine,” Egerton posted online on Sunday. “Slightly sore neck and a bruised ego but I’m fine. I’ve decided to put a positive spin on it and I would appreciate it if anyone who was in the theatre last night just said that I gave such a committed, electrifying performance that my body couldn’t handle it and checked out. That being said, apparently, you’re meant to actually do the full show and not just three-quarters of it. So I’ll be back with a vengeance tomorrow night.”
Egerton praised his co-stars and the rest of the production team and called Harper-Jackson “an amazing actor and a lovely person.”
Joel also took to Twitter to say it was “an absolute privilege” to step in for Taron:
Last night was an absolute privilege. Taron is a true gentleman, has been so supportive & most importantly he’s okay & will be back on Monday. The team at @cocktheplayldn have been so supportive & I feel extraordinarily lucky to have experienced that moment. I’ll never forget it. pic.twitter.com/57LkXuHY9I

Yes, Taron Egerton has played Elton John, but now that he’s been done in by Cock, he can say that he’s one step closer to experiencing the full gay experience!
