John Mulaney Gave A Shout-Out To Olivia Munn On “SNL,” And She Joined Him At An After Party

We haven’t heard much regarding whatever it is that’s going on between John Mulaney and Olivia Munn in a while. Which is actually more like an eerie calm, considering there was a time when we were all crunching the numbers on their relationship in full show-your-work algebra mode like Good Will Hunting. But John is back, and his grand return happened on Saturday night’s episode of Saturday Night Live. Obviously he didn’t spend the whole show gushing about what an incredible and totally 100% morally ethical situation he’s currently in with the former star of The Newsroom. Because come on, he had sketches to read cue cards in. But he did briefly mention her in his monologue, as well as crack a few jokes about their 12-week-old son.

John Mulaney hosted SNL for the fifth time, and his episode opened with a solemn tribute to the citizens of Ukraine. Then after the opening credits, John gave a monologue about his life since he hosted last time, on October 31, 2020. That’s a real “How much time you got” window of required explanation. Since that previous time hosting, John found himself in the middle of an intervention that ended with him agreeing that he needed to go to rehab to deal with his drug addiction issues. That rehab stint infamously ended with a surprise announcement that he was divorcing his wife of six years, Anna Marie Tendler. That was followed by the most shocking surprise of all, which was that he had been dating Olivia Munn and that – surprise! – she really was pregnant with his first kid. That baby, a little boy named Malcolm Hiệp, was born in November 2021, and I’ll let you grab the chalk and the blackboard and do the math on that. Here’s what he had to say about Olivia, aka his “girlfriend,” and Malcolm on Saturday night. via UsWeekly:

“For many, many reasons, I’m grateful to be here tonight after a very complicated year it is wonderful to be in a place that’s always emphasized sobriety and mental health. Since I last hosted, different things have happened. I have a 12-week-old son. I’m very excited, he is a pretty cool guy for someone who can’t vote.”

“We were in the delivery room. My girlfriend had just given birth to him and he’s crying a little, so they bring him over to this warmer on the other side of the delivery room, and they put them on the warmer under this big bright light and light is just shining in his eyes,” Mulaney recalled. “He just looks up at the light and [he squints]. He was annoyed, but he didn’t say anything. I was like, ‘That’s my son.’”

John Mulaney’s baby also made a special guest appearance during one of the show’s photo bumpers, which Olivia Munn commemorated with its own Instagram post, saying “Proud of my guys.” Malcolm also made an appearance backstage too. Knowing how much Lorne Michaels lives for nepotism, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out Malcolm was offered a spot in the writer’s room for the 2022-2023 season.

As mentioned earlier, Olivia also accompanied John to the requisite SNL after-party. via The Daily Mail:

The 39-year-old comedian stayed close to his girlfriend as they strolled hand in hand to the BLACKBARN in Manhattan after taking the stage for his fifth time hosting the popular sketch show where he previously served as a writer for nearly a decade.

Good for her. If I had a 12-week-old baby in my life, I’d be back at the hotel drooling into a pillow.

About a month before Olivia gave birth, there were several rumors about how alive their relationship was, with some people saying they split up (possibly due to John Mulaney cheating on her), and others saying that everything was good and they were still very much together. And clearly, they’re together in a boyfriend/girlfriend way. I mean, he literally referred to Olivia as his “girlfriend” in the monologue. It would have been a lot more ambiguous had John started telling the story of Malcolm’s birth and said, “So we’re in the delivery room and the…uh…famous actress giving birth to my son. Yeah, that shouldn’t catch me too much shit on Twitter.
