Halyna Hutchins’ Husband Is “So Angry” That Alec Baldwin Refuses To Take Responsibility For The “Rust” Shooting

We’ve heard a lot from Alec Baldwin regarding what allegedly went down on the New Mexico set of the film Rust, which left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead after Alec’s gun was discharged while pointed at her. We’ve heard from Alec many times. Over and over. But now it’s time to hear from Halyna Hutchins’ widower, Matt Hutchins, who also happens to be one of the people suing Alec Baldwin for the wrongful death of his late wife. Matt sat down with Hoda Kotb and TODAY to discuss the horrific event that took his wife’s life. But also, he managed to find the time to let us all know what he thinks of Alec Baldwin’s damage control tour. And let’s just say, Matt’s not buying much of it.

Matt spoke out to Hoda about a bunch of things, like how he was informed of Halyna’s death (he was called by members of production and told she had been shot), to what life has been like for him and their 9-year-old son Andros since 42-year-old Halyna was accidentally shot back in October (they’re pretty deep in their grief). Eventually, Matt got into Alec Baldwin and says he’s “shifting blame” from himself to anyone other than himself. And watching Alec’s December interview with ABC News made Matt feel “so angry.” That was the interview where Alec said that someone is responsible for Halyna’s death, but it’s not him, and that he feels no guilt as a result. Matt thinks Alec has been playing the “Boo hoo, why me?” victim, and he’s not into it. via NBC News:

“The idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to discharge is not responsible is absurd to me,” Matt Hutchins told Hoda Kotb. “But gun safety was not the only problem on that set. There were a number of industry standards that were not practiced and there’s multiple responsible parties,” he added.

“Watching him I just felt so angry,” Hutchins told Kotb. “I was just so angry to see him talk about her death so publicly in such a detailed way and then to not accept any responsibility after having just described killing her.”

When Hoda points out that Alec has said he feels grief, but no guilt, Matt replied: “It almost sounds like he was the victim.” He further added that it felt like Alec was throwing Halyna under the bus during his interview and that Alec has an awful lot of fingers to point at everyone else on set that day. Then he dipped into this level of petty, which I think we can all fully understand:

“Seeing him cry about it. I just feel like, are we really supposed to feel bad about you, Mr. Baldwin? The idea that the person holding the gun, causing it to discharge, is not responsible, is absurd to me.”

Alec has maintained that he was holding the gun, pointing it at Halyna, and that he had cocked back the hammer, but that he didn’t squeeze the trigger on the gun when it discharged. The D.A. in the investigation has recently stated that they believe it’s completely possible that a gun could go off in this way without pulling the trigger. But Matt Hutchins still believes that the person holding the gun should be responsible for that sneaky bullet. Also, I know Matt Hutchins was asking a rhetorical question when he asked if we’re really supposed to feel bad for Alec Baldwin. But you know that Alec took that literally. The man has failed to read the room nearly every time he’s opened his mouth to cry “Why me???“. Hoda probably hadn’t even started her follow-up question before Alec started shouting, “Yes, please, I’d love some pity. Just a little? Oh, I’ve just been through so much.
