Arden Cho Reportedly Won’t Be In The “Teen Wolf” Revival Movie After Being Offered Half The Salary Of Her White Co-Stars
I only watched the MTV series Teen Wolf so that I could be queer-baited by the potential of Dylan O’Brien and Tyler Hoechlin‘s characters Stiles and Derek boning. “Sterek” was never going to happen, but I stuck with it all the way through, and I mean let’s put it this way: Pretty Little Liars is higher-quality television. So when a revival movie for Paramount+ was announced yesterday, I figured that surely they would queer-bait me a little bit better at least this time around, but nope. Dylan is not involved in the movie and Tyler may return but hasn’t signed on yet. And Arden Cho, who played the only non-white female character on the series, is also not returning to Teen Wolf. Deadline says that Arden refused to return after she was offered half of what they offered the other actresses.
Teen Wolf ran on MTV from 2011 to 2017, and during a ViacomCBS Investors Event, it was announced that it will return as a movie on Paramount+. Here’s a synopsis for the reboot film, via Deadline:
“A full moon rises in Beacon Hills, and with it a terrifying evil has emerged. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of banshees, werecoyotes, hellhounds, kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.”
Main man, Tyler Posey, is coming back to play the titular teen werewolf, Scott McCall. Eleven other series regulars are also coming back: Crystal Reed, Holland Roden, Colton Haynes, Shelley Hennig, Orny Adams, Linden Ashby, JR Bourne, Seth Gilliam, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio, and Dylan Sprayberry. Arden played Kira Yukimura, a kitsune, which is like a magical fox in Japanese lore. But Arden will not be in the movie and Deadline’s sources say it’s because they low-balled her:
According to sources, Cho, the only actress of color among the four female series regular cast members who played the group of teen friends at the center of the show, was offered half the per-episode salary proposed to her three counterparts, leading to her decision to pass.
After Arden got a lot of support online from fans for this, she showed love for them on Twitter:
Love you, wish I could give you all hugs 🤗

No word on if they’re planning to recast Kira Yukimura, but you should still brace yourselves for the announcement that in the Teen Wolf movie, Kira will be played by….. Scarlett Johansson!
And if Stiles doesn’t come back maybe they can still queer-bait with just Derek? Tyler Posey is always down to brush against gayness without actually having to deal with the consequences of it, so he’d totally be down!
