Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, And Regina Hall May Host The Oscars

The 2022 Oscars are set for March 27, and even though we got the nominations last week, the Academy still hasn’t announced who’s hosting. Rumored contenders included Pete Davidson, and Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez from Only Murders in the Building. But now Variety is reporting that Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall are in final talks to co-host together. Errr, together but separate. Apparently, producer Will Packer wants to split the show into three acts, with each woman hosting a different hour. So there’s still a very good chance this shit won’t pass the Bechdel test.
Variety’s sources say Will Packer has been in meetings for weeks “trying to find the right recipe for Hollywood’s big night.” Apparently, he met with a “laundry list of top talent,” including Jon Hamm, who “exited talks” over the weekend. ABC declined to comment on the matter, but word is the hosts will be formally announced tomorrow on Good Morning America. Reps for Amy, Wanda, and Regina didn’t comment, but Amy captioned a recent Instagram post with “Big fun news comin”:
Packer has been tasked with bringing excitement back to the festivities and increasing viewership, which is part of the reason that the Oscars are looking to tap performers with some sizzle to keep viewers engaged after going host-less for two consecutive years. In Sykes, Hall and Schumer, Packer has selected an all-female team with broad appeal and comedic chops.
“Broad appeal”… is that a reference to their wide range of fans, or the fact that Wanda, Regina, and Amy are all ladies? #OscarsSoVagina
