Here’s The Trailer For Hulu’s “The Dropout” Starring Amanda Seyfried As Elizabeth Holmes

Elizabeth Holmes is the Silicon Valley fraudster who was found guilty on four charges including wire fraud and related crimes after she and her former business partner, Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, hyped up a medical product they claimed could test for all sorts of diseases and conditions with just a drop of blood. But the gag was, the machine didn’t work. Elizabeth was found out and her plan unraveled very publicly after she was making headlines as a revolutionary new part of the medical community. Now she’s awaiting sentencing and faces 20 years in prison. But before she possibly goes to prison, she’ll be able to see Amanda Seyfried pretend to be her in Hulu’s The Dropout miniseries coming out on March 3.

Variety says that the series follows Elizabeth after she drops out of Stanford University to focus on her company Theranos. The movie also stars Naveen Andrews as Ramesh (who is facing a separate trial later this year) as well as, William H. Macy, Laurie Metcalf, Elizabeth Marvel, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Stephen Fry, Michel Gill, Michael Ironside, Bill Irwin, Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Sam Waterston, and Josh Pais. This is the first project about Elizabeth’s shady antics, the next will be Adam McKay‘s Apple movie, Bad Blood, starring Jennifer Lawrence. Coincidentally the two podcasts about this topic are ABC News’ The Dropout and the Wall Street Journal‘s John Carreyrou‘s Bad Blood. Hollywood loves to reuse snappy names!

Here’s the trailer but in my opinion, Amanda’s voice isn’t nearly deep enough to imitate Elizabeth’s allegedly fake deep voice. She needs to sound more strained, tighter–like she’s about to let a huge deuce drop but she can’t because she’s in public so she’s holding her ass muscles with all her might.

Whoever is doing the hair and makeup for this needs an Emmy, emphasis on hair. I mean, recreating those loose fly-aways in Elizabeth’s static-filled blonde hair is really an art, she looks just disheveled enough–right between Just Woke Up and Electrical Outlet Challenge.
