David Beckham Says Victoria Beckham Has Eaten The Same Meal Every Day For 25 Years

David Beckham is a guest on the most recent episode of the podcast River Cafe Table 4, and he talked about his relationship with food. The show is hosted by Ruth Rogers, founder of the trés classy River Cafe in London, where David and Victoria Beckham are regulars. Posh was on the pod back in September, but it’s David’s episode that’s making headlines about her eating habits. David revealed that Posh has eaten the same meal every single day since he met her 25 years ago. Lemme guess: Big Mac with extra pickles, a side of fries, and an Oreo McFlurry? Nope. It’s steamed fish and vegetables. Jesus Christ. That poor woman.

David told Ruth, via Vogue:

“She only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables; she will very rarely deviate from that,” he explains with a laugh. “The only time she’s probably ever shared something that’s been on my plate was actually when she was pregnant with Harper, and it was the most amazing thing… It was one of my favorite evenings. I can’t remember what it was but I know she’s not eaten it since!”

During Victoria’s Table 4 episode, she revealed that she won’t ingest oil, butter, or any kind of sauce. She said her go-to comfort food is a piece of wholegrain toast with salt on top, which is actually shocking because *dun dun dunnnn* CARBS!

Back in 2001, Victoria admitted she had a fucked up relationship with food in her autobiography, Learning to Fly. She wrote that fellow Spice Girl Geri Halliwell encouraged her and Mel C (who’s been open about her own battle with anorexia, exercise addiction, and depression) to get up early and start jogging, but “then it moved on to food.” Apparently, Geri told the women if they wanted to lose weight they needed to choose low-fat alternatives, avoid sauces, and cut back on food in general. Thanks, Dr. Ginger! Posh said she soon became obsessed with her appearance, via Wired:

“I began living on vegetables and nothing else,” she said. “I used to chop up bowls of spinach and carrots and mangetout and steam them. Or I’d just eat peas — a whole family pack of Birds Eye at one sitting.”

Victoria wrote that when the Spice Girls toured Japan she couldn’t find any vegetables she liked, so she stopped eating altogether and was thrilled when she dropped a ton of weight. She said she only forced herself to get back to a more balanced diet in 1998 when she became pregnant with Brooklyn Beckham. She blamed her drastic post-pregnancy weight loss in 2000 on food allergies and a blood sugar problem.

Posh’s steamed fish and vegetables reminds me of how Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow ate the same salad every single day on the Friends set. They called it the “Jennifer salad,” and Courtney described it as a Cobb salad “doctored up with turkey bacon and garbanzo beans and I don’t know what.” Some helpful maniac figured out the recipe and posted it online. It looks OK, except… no dressing? I couldn’t do it. Get back to me when you drench that shit in some sort of high-fat white sauce (tzatziki, ranch, caesar, aioli).
