Whoopi Goldberg Has Been Suspended From “The View” For Two Weeks Over Her Holocaust Comments

Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1793) just rose up from his grave, wiped the cobwebs out of his eye sockets and said “now why am I in it?Whoopi Goldberg pissed off a lot of people when she said the Holocaust wasn’t about race, rather it was about “man’s inhumanity to man.” Those are Bob’s words and he didn’t do shit but lie in the ground not bothering anybody for 300 years. According to Deadline, ABC announced they were suspending Whoopi for 2 weeks from The View for the “wrong and hurtful comments” she made, denying that race played a part in the Nazi Germany’s plan to annihilate an entire race of people. So now Whoopi has the added worry of yet another dusty ghost coming to haunt her ass on top of getting suspended. And according to Page Six, Whoopi may be looking at more than just a suspension.

Whoopi’s most recent controversial/asinine remarks, of which there have been plenty, came on Monday’s episode of The View. After hearing from many people far more educated on the subject than herself tell her she was wrong, she appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and reiterated that she “felt differently.” In fact, she used some form of the word “feel” multiple times which is encouraging because that’s how history works right? You just “feel” it in your bones! Isn’t that right, Bob you old sack of femurs!

Whoopi did finally apologize on Twitter saying she “misspoke,” concluding with “I regret my comments, and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people.” However, ABC president Kim Goodwin says that’s not enough.

Nope, that unholy screech you just heard wasn’t Bob ripping a hole in the upper atmosphere by using his ghost-given powers to astral project himself off this stupid planet, it was actually Meghan McCain cackling. Deadline adds:

Deadline has also obtained a longer memo Godwin sent to staff, in which she calls the View co-host’s comments “misinformed, upsetting and hurtful.” Godwin affirmed that “words matter and we must be cognizant of the impact our words have,” before appending the shorter statement that was tweeted out tonight.

And according to Page Six, sources including ABC staffers, Disney Network execs, and even her fellow hosts, including Joy Behar, think she might have fumbled the bag beyond recovery. A source claimed that “her agents are panicking that she may have ruined herself for good.

“ABC staffers and Disney Network execs are saying Whoopi went way too far. And board members are not happy with her apology and want a fuller retraction. The word is that Whoopi is in ‘deep shit,’” one ABC insider told us.

“Why does Whoopi seemingly get a pass when others don’t? Perhaps this time she won’t. Many at the network — including her fellow hosts — believe Whoopi is too controversial now for the show.”

The insider also told Page Six that the situation “isn’t just going to blow over.”

“This will cast a shadow over everything for a while. Even Joy Behar was heard saying backstage that Whoopi is ‘dead wrong’ and may not ever recover from this,” the source said. “Joy found this particularly troubling and couldn’t believe Whoopi wouldn’t stand corrected until she was forced.”

I am not a particularly smart person. Most of us aren’t. But the smartest among us know it, and wouldn’t put our lives and livelihoods on the line to prove otherwise. Whoopi, not so much. However, CNN adds that not everybody at The View thinks Whoopi should punished further, despite the ignorance of her remarks. Including frequent The View guest Ana Navarro.

Others, however, came to Goldberg’s defense and noted that her comments were made out of ignorance, not malice. One ABC News staffer told CNN that Goldberg had apologized and appeared to learn from her mistake, which they believed was key in evaluating whether to accept her apology.
Ana Navarro, a CNN political commentator who regularly guest hosts on “The View,” separately told CNN that Goldberg’s colleagues “know what’s in her heart” and that she’s “not an anti-Semite.”
“When you have five women, discussing complex topics, in five-minute segments on unscripted, live TV, sometimes things come out the wrong way,” Navarro said. “We are human and make mistakes. The difference between us and others is, we acknowledge it and try to correct it. Whoopi clarified and apologized without caveats.”

This is why I keep my stupid ass “feelings” to myself. Because if I went around spouting off about topics I don’t have the range to discuss on live TV, say for example I said that an 18th century poet predicted the Holocaust AND NeNe Leakes, I’d expect to get fired. But I’d also expect that Bob’s ghost would agree to be my partner when I get a new gig on Dancing With The Stars. That’s the problem with us Hollywood types. Our egos know no bounds!
