Drew Barrymore Revealed That She Used To Have An Open Relationship With Luke Wilson

Drew Barrymore had Kate Hudson on her talk show yesterday, and the two reminisced about first meeting when they were “young and wild.” Kate, 42, recalls meeting Drew, 46, at a Santa Monica bar with Luke Wilson. At the time Luke and Kate were shooting the rom-com stinker Alex & Emma (2003), and Drew reveals that she and Luke were in an open relationship. Kate replied, “I’ve been there with a Wilson too.” Nope, she’s not talking about that diva volleyball who starred in Castaway. Kate’s referencing her disastrous mid-aughts romance with Owen Wilson.

Here’s exactly what Drew said, via Yahoo!:

“I was dating him, but I think he was also dating other people,” Barrymore then added. “It was an open relationship; we were young.”

She continued:

“It’s so funny because when you’re young you’re like, ‘It’s low stakes, we’re just young. We’re having fun, we’re all playing, actors, hanging out.’ You’re not taking it all so seriously, and it was fun and we had the best time.”

Apparently, it’s on public record that Luke and Drew dated in the late nineties, but word is they split after co-starring in Home Fries (1998). Fun fact: that movie was written by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan when he was in film school. Huh! Anyway, we technically knew Drew and Luke dated, but we didn’t know that they got back together in the early 2000s and it was an open thing. Here’s the clip:

And here’s another part of the interview where the women discuss Goldie Hawn and analyze romantic comedies:

So, my million dollar question is this: who would you rather? Luke or Owen Wilson? I’d go with Luke. Not only is he cuter, he’s also not a deadbeat dad. Plus I trust Drew’s taste in men much more than Kate’s. A-Rod? Diplo? Lance Armstrong? Jared Leto’s brother? Dax Shepard?! It’s a real “who’s who” of human red flags.
