Open Post: Hosted By Martha Stewart’s Reason For Breaking Up With Anthony Hopkins
In a very “hold on, they dated?!” moment, Martha Stewart recently revealed that she and esteemed actor and fava bean fan Sir Anthony Hopkins were once romantically involved and that she was the one who ended it. Why? Because he was Hannibal Lecter, of course! She couldn’t have the culinary giant upstage HER dinner parties!
In a segment called “Where’s The Lie, Martha?” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (that’s still on?), Martha spilled her truth. via People:
While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday, Stewart played a rendition of “Two Truths and a Lie” called “Where’s The Lie, Martha?” During the segment, Stewart revealed the reason she called it quits with The Father actor.
“I dated Sir Anthony Hopkins but broke up with him because I couldn’t stop thinking of him as Hannibal Lecter,” the clue read. DeGeneres categorized it as a “lie,”, but Stewart revealed that it is indeed true.
“I have a big scary house in Maine that’s way by itself on a hundred acres in the forest,” Stewart shared. “I couldn’t even imagine taking Anthony Hopkins there.”
She added, “All I could think of was him eating, you know…”

She actually already told this story in 2006. During an interview with Howard Stern, Martha elaborated:
“Do you want someone eating your brain while you are sitting in your beautiful dining room in Maine?” she asked, adding, “I would have probably had a very nice relationship with Anthony Hopkins, but I couldn’t get past the Lecter thing.”
Martha appears to have an issue separating reality from fantasy. Does she think every movie star is secretly a character they’ve played in a film? Maybe that’s why she’s not really dated any actors. She was previously married to Andrew Stewart and dated billionaire Charles Simonyi and journalist Carl Bernstein. Martha is currently seeing “someone special” but is keeping mum on who it is.
To be fair to Martha, the bedroom definitely would have been a challenge. Anytime Anthony licked his lips, the moment would have quickly turned from romance to horror!
