Prince William Kept Quiet When A Reporter Asked Him About His Uncle Prince Andrew

Prince Andrew continues to bring such bad vibes to the Royal Family, I’m personally shocked they haven’t just taken to calling him He Who May Henceforth Be Known As “Huh? Who?”. If things keep going the way they’ve been going, that might be the only title he’s got left at some point. But for right now, Prince Andrew still very much exists as a member of the Royal Family, even if the rest of his DNA connections would rather talk about their complicated legacy with (pick anything, really) than acknowledge Andrew’s existence. So when Prince William was recently asked about his disgraced embarrassment of an uncle, Prince Andrew, no one should really be too surprised that William’s mouth turned into castle drawbridge and slammed shut.

Prince William and Duchess Kate made a visit to the Foundling Museum yesterday, which is a museum dedicated to the UK’s first children’s charity, the Foundling Hospital. That’s where ITV reporter Chris Ship asked William if he supports his uncle during this time. What time is that, you ask? Oh, just present day, where a possibly-broke Andy has been stripped of his military titles and being forced to defend himself against a sexual assault lawsuit. I will say – asking William about his uncle, who is accused of sexually abusing an underage girl, at a museum dedicated to helping kids was a real choice and a half. William responded first by saying he didn’t hear the question, and when it was repeated to him, William went into hardcore ignore mode. via People magazine:

“Do you support Prince Andrew?” the reporter repeated.

Prince William did not reply and returned his attention to exiting the building as a woman thanked the couple for coming.

Let’s go to the tape to see all that awkwardness play out in real-time, shall we? And for an extra dose of discomfort, there’s also a video of Prince Charles ignoring a question about his younger brother one day after Queen Elizabeth stripped Andrew of his military titles and patronages.

Prince William can’t get out of that door fast enough. It’s like he and Kate were in the final episode of The Amazing Race, and they were about to win the ultimate prize for a royal: not having to acknowledge the Prince Andrew situation. Today, William and Kate had a better day, PR-wise, when they attended an event to honor healthcare workers and they got to cuddle a puppy.

Look at all the people in that crowd. How did no one think to yell, “Speaking of dogs, any comment on your uncle?
