Some Marvel Fans Think Tom Cruise Might Have A Cameo In “Doctor Strange 2”

To the casual viewer, the MCU is largely a messy nonsensical world with a cult-like following where mortals have superpowers and claim they are trying to save the world but actually end up destroying people’s lives and ruining entire cities. Plus there are sometimes aliens from outer space? Oops, sorry, did I say Marvelverse? I meant to say Scientology. But honestly, potato/potahto, thetan/thanos. So maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise to learn that recent leaks from the set of Doctor Strange 2: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hint that that world’s most vigorous Dianetics thumper, Tom Cruise, might show up in a cameo as Iron Man/Tony Stark. I guess this was easier than trying to get Battlefield Earth 2: Maverick of the Universe financed.

To the casual viewer, Tony Stark, as played by Robert Downey Jr., died in the last Avengers movie, Endgame. To the office casual viewer, Tony Stark may still be alive in one or more alternate universes. And to the black-tie viewer, the kind that combs over screenshots looking for clues, it’s entirely possible that Tony Stark is Tom Cruise. According to GBR:

Doctor Strange 2 rumors dating back to early 2020 talked about Iron Man possibly returning to the MCU after the character’s heartbreaking death in Endgame. The speculation made sense for a movie about the multiverse. Strange could always meet with a different Iron Man from another reality.

But there’s a different actor that fans want to see as Iron Man in the MCU. That’s Tom Cruise, the actor that Marvel wanted to play Iron Man more than a decade ago. Cruise confirmed turning down the role in recent interviews, but that didn’t stop fans from fan-casting him as an alternate Tony Stark.

It so happens that some of the recent Doctor Strange 2 rumors say that Cruise will cameo as an Iron Man version from the multiverse. Specifically, Cruise will play a Tony Stark that supports the Illuminati, a group of superheroes that defend the multiverse. Either that, or he’ll be one of the Illuminati in the movie. But, as expected, other reports say that Cruise won’t be in the film.

Here’s a leaked image from the set of Doctor Strange 2 that some think is Tom wearing a motion capture suit and “the Tony Stark mustache and goatee combo that we’re so familiar with,” I.E. drawn on with a Sharpie.

I’m sorry but the day Tom Cruise stands quietly in front of a green screen with a subdued smile on his face is truly the day the earth stood still. It’s like yes, he will happily play an ego-driven billionaire with otherworldly powers and savior complex, but only in real life. I mean this here seems a little too on the nose.

I know this is obviously fan art, but I do wonder if it’s possible that Tom’s agent tricked him into believing that L. Ron Hubbard was and continues to be the ghostwriter of all the Marvel comic books to date.
