Jenny Slate Got Married In Her Living Room

Jenny Slate got married to her partner of three years, artist/writer/moustache-haver, Ben Shattuck. 39-year-old Jenny revealed the news in an interview with Marie Claire. She says that she and Ben, 37, got hitched in their living room on New Year’s Eve. The couple, who have a one-year-old daughter, Ida Lupine Shattuck, have been engaged since September 2019. This was Bennifer 3.0’s fourth attempt at a wedding; the first three got canceled cuz of COVID.

The original wedding was Jenny-Slated (meh) for June 2020, but obviously, that was doomed. Jenny tells Marie Claire:

“We were planning on a [wedding] that ended up being almost 200 people, and then now, it’s just our parents and siblings. We each invited six friends… I actually like it,” she told the magazine. “I like it better.”

Added Slate, “I didn’t realize how the large thing was making me feel uncomfortable, a little bit. Just a little.”

Jenny, Ben, and baby Ida currently live in a seaside town in Massachusetts. Jenny is originally from Milton, MA, and Ben was born and raised on the South Shore. This is Jenny’s second marriage. She was previously married to filmmaker Dean Fleischer-Camp from 2012 to 2016. Those two collaborated on Jenny’s 2010 short, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and they continued working together post-divorce, on the upcoming Marcel the Shell feature adaptation:

“In some ways, there are challenges that come up when you’re working with someone, and your relationship is…” Slate pauses, and thinks, “is making a big, big shift. But no… It certainly wasn’t dramatic or fighting or something like that. This is both of our favorite piece of work, I think, that we do, and are doing, and have done. So, I think we just wanted to keep our eye on that. We never talked about it, but I feel like both of us understood the doing the work and doing it well.”

Just three months after her separation from Dean, Jenny dated Chris Evans (also from Massachusetts). Those two were on-and-off until early 2018.

I must have been asleep (or extremely stoned) the day Jenny had her baby because I had no clue little Ida even existed. Jenny says being a momma has its “profound challenges,” but she’s never been happier. She says she started shooting her new rom-com, I Want You Back, just 10 weeks after giving birth, and had to pump her breast milk on set every three hours:
Sometimes I wouldn’t make it to three hours. I never worked that way before. Making that film has definitely changed the way that I’ll make all of my other work. I started to advocate for myself.
Good for Jenny! Milk those titties, and if anyone gives you shit, just aim for the eye!
