Priyanka Chopra Says People Read Too Much Into Her Instagram Name Change
Only a couple of months ago, a whole lot of people got a skeptical feeling in their guts about the current status of Priyanka Chopra’s marriage to Nick Jonas. Priyanka, who had formally been going by Priyanka Chopra Jonas when she changed her social media handles from the aforementioned Priyanka Chopra Jonas to just Priyanka. That was followed by an interview in which Priyanka noted that she and Nick haven’t really spent much time together in 2021. So there was a less-than-vague implication that there may be trouble in the Chopra Jonas home. Well, Priyanka has addressed all the suspicious side-eyes she received after changing her name on Instagram, and she says that too many people tried to make something out of what might have been nothing.
Priyanka recently spoke to Vanity Fair and stressed that her social media presence isn’t an accurate indication of what’s going on in her personal life. via E! News:
Priyanka described the online reaction as a “professional hazard” given her and her husband’s illustrious careers, but revealed that it also left her feeling blue.
“It’s a very vulnerable feeling, actually, that if I post a picture, everything that’s behind me in that picture is going to be zoomed in on, and people are going to speculate,” she told the outlet. “Because of the noise of social media, because of the prevalence that it has in our lives, I think it seems a lot larger than it is. I think that we give it a lot more credence in real life, and I don’t think it needs that.”
The interview took place at Priyanka and Nick’s home, so Nick was there to chime in with his opinion on the whole public life vs. privacy conversation. And he says that being a little closed-off is very important to both of them.
“We both know that public life is something that comes with what we do,” he said. “But we’ve set real boundaries around our personal lives, our privacy, and worked really hard to create that little safe haven for ourselves with our friends and family.”
I guess the biggest takeaway from all of this is that if there are problems in Priyanka and Nick’s marriage, we’ll never know, because they’re very careful not to drop hints on Instagram, of all places. So when Priyanka erased both the Chopra and the Jonas from her Instagram page, she wasn’t doing it to send a coded message about how many divorce lawyers she currently has on speed dial. Besides, if Priyanka and Nick really were on the brink of splitting up, do you think they’re going to let that news drop with a subtle social media name change? Please! Priyanka and Nick had multiple weddings over the span of several months. They don’t do anything small, quiet, or subtle. We’ll know if they’re getting divorced when every event planner, caterer, chair rental company, and DJ in Los Angeles is booked for 9 weeks for a “mystery” project.
