Christina Ricci Learned The Name Of Her Baby When Her Husband Posted It On Instagram

Last month Christina Ricci and her new husband, hairstylist Mark Hampton, welcomed a baby daughter, Cleopatra Ricci Hampton. “Cleo” for short. Kewt. Except, as Christina explains to Ellen DeGeneres on a recent appearance of Ellen, she didn’t actually realize her daughter’s full name was “Cleopatra” until Mark posted it on social media. The couple had discussed the possibility of officially elongating “Cleo” to “Cleopatra” right before Christina delivered the baby, but she thought things were still up in the air. Well, until she saw her boyfriend’s baby announcement post on Instagram. Huh. Guess it’s official! Thanks, babe?

Christina tells Ellen:

We were gonna call her Cleo, and then right before — I had a C-section, and right before, when they were preparing me, and they started talking about how we had to fill out birth certificate stuff. My husband was like, “Well, we’re gonna give her a full name, right? And then the nickname’s Cleo.”

Christina says she asked Mark if he meant “Cleopatra” as the full name, and he replied, “Yeah, the full name’s Cleopatra.” She explains:

I was sort of like, “OK, fine, whatever. We’ll talk about this later.” But then he got so excited that he put it on Instagram and then media outlets picked up that her name was Cleopatra Ricci Hampton, and I was like… “I guess her name’s Cleopatra.”

Christina said she initially assumed the baby’s full name would be Cleo, but that they’d make an official decision later. You know, after she had the baby. But Christina tells Ellen her husband “figured it out while I was in recovery!” Then she giggled, and the audience laughed. Because apparently that was supposed to be a fun talk show anecdote, and not a story to make us hate her husband. Here’s the Ellen clip:

And here’s Mark’s baby announcement post:

This is Christina’s second child. She had a son, Freddie, with her abusive ex-husband, James Heerdegen, in 2014. Christina currently has full custody of their seven-year-old, and she tells Ellen he loves being a big brother.

Christina went on to insist that “Cleopatra’s good, it’s a queen’s name!” so I guess it all worked out in the end. Welp, Mark’s one lucky dude. I would not wanna get on Christina Ricci’s bad side. I am genuinely scared of that woman. Maybe it’s because she’s played weirdos like Wednesday Addams, Lizzie Borden, and now psycho Misty on my new favorite show, Yellowjackets. I mean, I know they’re just roles, but what if Christina’s method? Watch yourself, Mark…
