The 2022 SAG Nominations Are Out

January 12, 2022 / Posted by:

The 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards announced their nominees this morning courtesy with help from Rosario Dawson and eugenics-fan, Vanessa Hudgens, who were both introduced by the new SAG-AFTRA president, Fran Drescher. The 28th Annual SAG Awards will air on TNT and TBS on February 27 and being nominated here is a big deal because last year the nominees of the SAG awards comprised 16 of the 20 acting nominees at the Oscars. And this is the trend, as they usually predict about half of the big Oscar categories. So I’m sorry to say, Lady Gaga‘s method-acting seems to be working, as she got herself a SAG nomination. And Kristen Stewart’s Princess Diana was shut out. Although, if you ask her, she probably doesn’t give a shit! Or so she says.

The nominees for the SAGs are picked by a randomly selected nominations panel of 2,500 members of the merged Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists unions. Then the winners get picked by a vote of all 121,000 members of SAG-AFTRA. I’m assuming none of them get flights to Paris, by the nominees, though. At least if they’re authentic!

Apple TV+, Netflix, and HBO all got a lot of nominations. Apple TV+ got in with CODA, The Morning Show, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and Tedd Lasso. Netflix got in with Squid Game, Don’t Look Up, Passing, The Lost Daughter, Maid, The Power of the Dog (although, Power of the Dog was shut out of the ensemble category), and more. HBO got in with The White Lotus, Mare of Easttown, Succession, and more. Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building also got a few nominations.

Of course, a noticeable snub is Kristen Stewart who was ignored for her role as Princess Diana in Spencer. Looks like Princess Diana’s spirit was not enough to get her a nomination this time. Lady Gaga is probably cackling with delight to have a top competitor out of the races. Too bad she already lost to Nicole Kidman at the Golden Globes, but maybe Gaga can convince the SAG voting members with more publicized stories about how she had to dye her hair brown to deliver a great performance.

And Licorice Pizza got a nomination for Best Supporting Actor thanks to Bradley Cooper. At least Madonna can be happy with the news, she’s probably mopping the SAG office floor already to show her thanks.
