Alia Shawkat Says That Brad Pitt Knew Nothing About The Rumors That They Were Dating
One of the more random bits of celebrity dating gossip that happened last decade was the rumor that 58-year-old Brad Pitt was dating 32-year-old Alia Shawkat. Of course, nothing came from the rumors. Even Alia herself decided to finally comment on them, and explain that no matter what whispers people were hearing, she was definitely not dating her “friend” Brad Pitt. But for that brief period of time where celebrity gossip was set ablaze with rumors of Bralia or Shitt, Brad Pitt remained blissfully unaware of it all.
This all started after Brad and Alia attended an event at an art gallery in November 2019. That was followed by several sightings, like Brad and Alia going to a comedy show, Alia riding her bike out of Brad’s gated community, and Brad and Alia going to Kanye West’s Sunday Service opera. Multiple sources close to Brad spoke out and said the rumors were ludicrous because the two were just plain ol’ friends. Which of course was just a bit difficult to believe, considering a middle-aged Hollywood actor going through a messy divorce is about eighteen thousand times more likely to hook up with an actress half his age than he is to become platonic friends with one.
Alia recently spoke to The New Yorker about the final season of Search Party, and she was asked what it felt like to “go viral” for being rumored to be with Brad Pitt, and if she still feels a little bit of leftover attention from it all.
“Thank God, no. It came in hot and left as fast as it came in. It happened during COVID, and I was alone with it. It was so weird. Now it’s like a weird dream, where I’m, like, Did that happen?”
Yes, it did happen. But apparently, it only happened to Alia Shawkat. Because if you ask Brad what was going on in the final few months of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, he might answer: “Shoot, let’s see…fighting in court with Angie. Not much else to tell you, might have broken in a new hair brush.”
“[Brad] had no awareness of it at all. Which is so funny. Because he doesn’t read that shit. I was, like, ‘You know everyone thinks we’re dating? And there’s this whole thing, and I’m being followed.’ And he was, like, ‘I’m sorry. It happens. If you hang out with me, it happens.’ He had no awareness of it at all.
Alia adds that she truly hated all the attention she got from being seen around A-List Movie Star Brad Pitt because she wasn’t followed by photographers before Brad and hasn’t been since.
“There’s something ironic about it. It has nothing to do with Brad as a person—he’s a great fucking guy. But of course the idea of me being romantically involved with an older white guy is what gets me the most attention. Not a twenty-year career. That’s what gets me. And it’s ironic and gross and stupid.”
I think we can all give Brad a pass for not following the made-up rumors about his love life. The man probably only uses the internet for browsing pictures of expensive v-neck t-shirts. And besides, he was right in the middle of an aggressive Oscar campaign! You can’t expect him to know who he’s allegedly dating when he’s too busy testing out whether he should wear his hair flipped over the collar of his tux or pulled back in a smart bun.
