Open Post: Hosted By Zendaya, Kiernan Shipka, And Willow Smith’s Tribute To David Bowie

It’s been almost six years since legendary artist David Bowie passed away. He would have turned 75 yesterday, and in honor of his birthday, W magazine posted an old video of Zendaya, Kiernan Shipka, and Willow Smith delivering up a version of his classic song Changes. There are some choices made in this video. W should ch-ch-ch-change whoever comes up with these ideas because this is a mess!

The clip features the three celebrities half-singing, half-speaking, half-whatever-it-is-Willow-is-doing Bowie’s Changes while reading the lyrics from a paper. It was actually filmed and released back in 2016, but W decided to repost it presumably as a gift to Bowie fans everywhere. Here’s the video for the morbidly curious:

W should have silently deleted the video and never let it see the light of day once, much less twice! It took me a minute to get what was happening. Kiernan at least attempted to meekly sing the song while Zendaya did some kind of reading. However, Willow decided to turn the song into an audition for a high school poetry slam. Leave the craft of spoken word to the true artistes, Willow!

Most commenters did not care for this tribute with multiple people calling it “uncomfortable,” “blasphemous,” and “cringe.” This genuinely looks like someone half-baked the idea last minute, printed out the lyrics from lyricsfreak.com, and told these women to figure something out. It’s giving shades of that Imagine video but is mercifully much shorter and features fewer celebrities.

If you’re looking to cleanse your palate, here’s the original:
