Whoopi Goldberg Got COVID-19 And Is Out Of “The View” For The Rest Of The Week

The View returned from its holiday break today, and the Omicron variant has forced the ladies out of the studio and back to hosting remotely from their living rooms. And where was Whoopi Goldberg? Joy Behar shared the bad news: Whoopi has tested posted for COVID-19. Luckily, she’s vaccinated and boosted, so her symptoms are “very mild.”
Joy says that she hopes Whoopi, who turned 66 in November, will return to moderating the panel next week and the hosts will be back in the studio soon. But we shall see. This Omicron bitch doesn’t fuck around. Here’s exactly what 79-year-old Joy said, via People:
“They say there’s no place like home for the holidays and that’s exactly where we are this year,” she said. “Happy New Year from all of our living rooms. As you can see we’re back in boxes and doing the show remotely — hopefully for just a week, I’m praying that it’s just a week but you never know because this omicron thing is all over the place.”
She added:
“Why am I here instead of Whoopi? Well, Whoopi, unfortunately, tested positive over the break but she’ll be back probably next week. Since she’s vaxxed and boosted, her symptoms have been very, very, mild. But we’re being super cautious here at The View.”
Here’s Joy’s Whoopi-announcement:

Co-host Sunny Hostin, 53, shared that she also tested positive for COVID over the holiday break, but she’s since recovered. Sunny added that it was a “pretty difficult holiday season for the Hostin household” because it marked one year since her husband, Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, lost both his parents from coronavirus. They died within three days of each other, on Dec. 28, 2020, and Jan. 1, 2021. Manny spent Christmas Day at the cemetery. Sunny said:
“I FaceTimed with my family for Christmas and New Year’s and it was extremely difficult,” she said. “My mom also tested positive for COVID. We’re all negative now and thank god Manny and the kids and my dad were negative and remain negative.”
She added that she was thankful she was vaccinated and boosted because she only had “cold-like symptoms.”
Ana Navarro, 49, also had a shit holiday. Her mother, Violeta Flores López, passed away on December 14 at age 81. She told the ladies she was “heartbroken” and spent the winter break grieving the loss with her family. Bad news all around.
Here’s the clip of The View ladies commiserating about their terrible holiday season, which once again proves that celebrities are, indeed, just like us:
Whoopi has struggled with health problems before: in 2019 she left The View for several weeks because she almost died from pneumonia. In June 2021 she took a week off because she was dealing with sciatica and returned to the show using a walker. Are all these illnesses a result of getting older? Or is something more nefarious at play? Does Whoopi have any enemies? Hmmm… lemme think…
