Justin Bieber’s “Peaches” Got A Grammy Record For The Most Writers On One Song

January 2, 2022 / Posted by:

Billboard says that Justin Bieber is now the person nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammys with the most co-writers ever credited. Yes, it took ELEVEN whole people to bring his song Peaches to life. Which must be infuriating for poor Justin. I mean, that’s how many people it took to convince The Grammys to let him into the R&B category?

Peaches, featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, is nominated for both SOTY and also Best R&B Performance, and it has over 450 million streams on YouTube. And it took eleven people to come up with this poetry:

I got my peaches out in Georgia (oh, yeah, shit)
I get my weed from California (that’s that shit)
I took my chick up to the North, yeah (badass bitch)
I get my light right from the source, yeah (yeah, that’s it)

Justin took the record away from Beyoncé. Her Juneteenth song, Black Parade, was nominated in 2020 for Song of the Year and had 9 songwriters on the track including Beyoncé herself, her husband Jay-Z, Denisia Andrews, Stephen Bray, Brittany Coney, Derek James Dixie, Akil King, Kim “Kaydence” Krysiuk, and Rickie “Caso” Tice. But if you think that’s an impressive roster then check out Justin’s gang:

11: In 2021, Justin Bieber’s Peaches (featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon) became the first song of the year nominee written by 11 songwriters. Bieber co-wrote the song with his featured artists, who write under the names Ashton Simmonds and Giveon Dezmann Evans, as well as Louis Bell, Bernard Harvey, Felisha “Fury” King, Matthew Sean Leon, Luis Manuel Martinez Jr., Aaron Simmonds, Andrew Wotman and Keavan Yazdani.

This has been the trend for the Grammys for a while after years of nominating songs written by one or two people–it’s called “songwriting by committee.” Back in 1981, they nominated Christopher Cross Arthur’s Theme which had four songwriters. Sheryl Crow got a nomination for All I Wanna Do in 1994, which had five songwriters. Seven people wrote for Destiny Child‘s Say My Name (and all seven are guaranteed spots in Heaven because of it). And Bruno Mars was nominated for That’s What I Like in 2018 which had eight songwriters attached.

Final voting for the 64th Grammy Awards is currently happening and members can vote until January 3rd. Winners will be announced at the broadcast on January 31.

Honestly, this isn’t the first or last time that Justin has had help with something important. I’m sure that when he and his wife, Hailey Bieber, finally “squish out their nugget” of a baby Justin will have equally as many nannies helping raise the child. Probably more than eleven!
