Open Post: Hosted By The Huntsman Spider Who Interrupted A COVID-19 News Conference In Australia

December 21, 2021 / Posted by:

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath was giving an outdoor news conference in Australia to discuss recent COVID-19 vaccination policies when she was rudely interrupted by a huntsman spider! The uninvited arachnid (who isn’t considered dangerous to humans) was whooping it up near Yvette’s leg, and she calmly asked, “Okay, can somebody please get that spider off?” Chief Health Officer John Gerrard tried to shoo the spider away with some papers, but it quickly disappeared. After all, it already got what it wanted: sweet, sweet attention.

Yvette joked:

This is how controlled I can be. I don’t like huntsmans, but I’m going to keep going and I’m gonna pretend I don’t have a huntsman on me right now. And let somebody else manage this. But if he comes anywhere near my face, please let me know.

Later she joked, “Well, that was a moment, wasn’t it? We’ve got COVID and we’ve got spiders.” Here’s the video of Spidergate 2021:

And here’s special close-up footage of the spider doing its thing:

The spider may have tried to steal the spotlight from Yvette, but the real star of the show was Mikey Webb (web!), the sign language interpreter with the sexy man bun. Check out Mikey’s inspired interpretation of “huntsman spider” at the 0:50 mark of the video. The tongue! The hands! The deranged look in his eyes that says, “Mmmm, where are all the delicious flies?” In that moment, Mikey became a huntsman spider. And we thank him for his service.
