Ellen Pompeo Says She’s Been Working On “Convincing Everybody” That “Grey’s Anatomy” Should Finally End
Ellen Pompeo is tired of Grey’s Anatomy. Ellen has been leading the series since it debuted all the way back in 2005. And she’s still on GA saving people’s lives in the most melodramatic ways possible for the eighteenth season in a row. But she needs a break! And Ellen says she’s been focused on “convincing everybody” to finally bring this series out back and shoot it.
This is not the first time Ellen has talked about how staying on Grey’s has been a financially-motivated decision and she keeps coming back for those Benjamins. Ellen is one of the highest-paid actresses working in television and earns about $20 million per year. But still, she’s taking her crusade to end her show seriously, and she says she’s working on getting the people around her on the same page.
During an interview with Insider to promote Betr Remedies, her medical company that helps get medications to people who can’t access them, Ellen said that she’s ready to focus her attention on other things and move on from TV.
“I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end,” she recently told Insider while promoting her company Betr Remedies, where she serves as its cofounder and chief impact officer. But Pompeo says she’s having a hard time convincing others to pull the plug on a show that has been so successful for nearly two decades. “I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, “But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?”” she continued. “And everyone’s like, “Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars.””
Entertainment Tonight says she made similar comments at the Emmys in September:
“I’ve been trying to get away for years. I have been trying. It’s not because I haven’t been trying… I have strong relationships at the network and they have been very, very good to me, and have incentivized me to stay… Miraculously, we keep coming up with ways to have a reason to stay and if there’s a reason, that warrants it.”
I fully agree that it’s time for this series to end. I mean, come on–I’ve been watching since the beginning and I can tell with almost 97% accuracy who is going to die in any given episode. That’s called redundancy! But let’s be real, Shonda Rhimes has clearly not cared about anything ABC-related since they screwed with her Disneyland passes. If they wanted her A-quality material they should have let her into the Haunted Mansion for free!
