Fans Are Not Loving Aaliyah’s New Song, Which Features The Weeknd

Aaliyah is back! But not in hologram form….again. She’s back thanks to her label releasing music post-humously for profit. Today, they released a song called Poison, which The Weeknd yodels on. It is aptly titled since the mix of it is certainly poisonous to my ears. Paris Hilton music has clearer vocals than this!

Barry Hankerson is the founder of Aaliyah’s former label, Blackground Records, and also her uncle, and while he fought with her estate–run by Aaliyah’s own mother, Diane Haughton–to keep Aaliyah’s music away from the public for years, he’s now ready to cash in. Barry has finally allowed her music onto streaming platforms and new music is on the way too. Enter: this song featuring The Weeknd.

The song is the first single off of Aaliyah’s posthumous album, Unstoppable, which will be released next year. Barry had this to say about Poison. via Complex:

“I’m so excited to share this new song by Aaliyah and the very talented The Weeknd. I wanted her adoring fans to get a special gift before the holidays and felt it was the perfect time to release a never-before-heard offering.”

The Weeknd isn’t the only artist helping Aaliyah’s uncle besmirch her legacy. Other posthumous songs will feature Drake, Future, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, and Snoop Dogg. But they may wanna look into using different sound mixers because the New York Post says fans are not loving Poison. One online commenter called it the “worst thing I’ve ever heard” and the song has been trending on Twitter with people giving it some less-than-stellar reviews:

Another reviewer echoes what most are thinking about Aaliyah’s spirit wanting to “be left alone. My goodness. And, no one sampling her music/voice is doing anything worth a damn. Let it go. Please.”

This is pretty offensive, I have to say. I mean, not since Kim Kardashian‘s Halloween costume of Aaliyah has this poor departed woman been so disrespected! And at least Kim Kardashian took her hideous and semi-appropriative costume off. This song will last forever!
