Time Magazine Names Elon Musk “Person Of The Year”

LMAO at this one. 50-year-old billionaire, Elon Musk, is Time Magazine‘s Person of the Year. The guy who thought COVID-19 would be gone last April, and that you could rescue a children’s soccer team from an underwater cave with a single-seated submarine, and plays video games more than he talks to his girlfriends, is the Person of the Year. But as we’ve been reminded before, Time’s Person of the Year is not Time’s BEST Person of the Year. I mean, Jeff Bezos and Trump have been Person of the Year before.

The Internet is currently reacting to the announcement that Elon Musk has been named Person of the Year. The title previously went to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris after they successfully beat Donald Trump for President, and also Greta Thunberg for fighting for climate justice. Elon has… not paid taxes? Is obsessed with Mars? Is rich from government subsidies? Made cars that self-drive themselves into a wall? But as Time explains, Elon has received their Person of the Year title because of his influence. via CNN:

“Person of the Year is a marker of influence, and few individuals have had more influence than Musk on life on Earth, and potentially life off Earth too,” Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal wrote. “In 2021, Musk emerged not just as the world’s richest person but also as perhaps the richest example of a massive shift in our society.”

…In his writeup introducing Musk as Person of the Year, Felsenthal called attention to his “persona,” describing it as a “blunt instrument that often seems to revel in division and aggressive mockery,” which the public sees through his frequent use of Twitter.

Time also compared Elon to Charles Lindbergh who was the first person to fly alone across the Atlantic. via Yahoo!:

“For creating solutions to an existential crisis, for embodying the possibilities and the perils of the age of tech titans, for driving society’s most daring and disruptive transformations, Elon Musk is TIME’s 2021 Person of the Year… Even Elon Musk’s spacefaring adventures are a direct line from the very first Person of the Year, Charles Lindbergh, whom the editors selected in 1927 to commemorate his historic first solo transatlantic airplane flight over the Atlantic.”

Here’s Elon’s cover as well as the covers of Time’s Heroes of the Year (the vaccine scientists), Entertainer of the Year (Olivia Rodrigo), and Athlete of the Year (Simone Biles).

For me, the most shocking thing about Elon getting Person of the Year is that they let him go on Time’s cover with that insane haircut. Couldn’t he have redone his hair plugs before the cover photo? I mean, this isn’t a Time cover, this is an ad for a wannabe DJ who only plays lyricless Euro music in abandoned factories.
