Ben Affleck And Ana De Armas’ Film “Deep Water” Has Been Shelved Indefinitely

Nothing gives off more of a “First months of the pandemic” vibe like the smell of banana bread, binging Tiger King, and seeing Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas together in front of a camera. It felt like not a day went by in those early months when we were seeing BenAna strolling along the neighborhood streets of Los Angeles. But that was 2020, and it’s not 2021, and apparently, Disney is maybe under the impression that not so many people want to see Ben and Ana on screen together in this post-Bennifer world. This might be why they took the movie they filmed, Deep Water, and pulled it from the release schedule.

Part of the BenAna lore was that they got together on the set of the film Deep Water, an “erotic psychological thriller” directed by Adrian Lyne, who directed Unfaithful. The plot synopsis, according to Wikipedia, reads as follows:

A married couple who have fallen out of love with each other begin playing deadly mind games against one another that begin seeing those around them dying.

It was originally scheduled to be released in November 2020 but was pushed because of the pandemic. It was then rescheduled to hit theaters in August, but it was pushed for a second time. The most recent date of release was January 14th, 2022, but guess what – don’t count on seeing Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas playing erotic, thrilling mind games two weeks into the new year. It’s not going to happen, because Disney has decided to make it temporarily disappear. via Deadline:

Disney said Thursday that Deep Water has been pulled from the release schedule. It had been slated to hit theaters on January 14, 2022.

The studio did not give a reason for the move on the pic, which is the first movie from the Indecent Proposal and Fatal Attraction director in almost two decades and is based on the Patricia Highsmith novel. Deadline has reached out for comment.

There’s no word on when Deep Water might actually be released. Why do I get the feeling Deep Water is about to get quietly dumped on Disney+, and it will only be discovered once someone decided to search for a Disney Channel original movie and misspells Dadnapped. Or maybe, Disney will never let Deep Water see the light of day! Because what would Deep Water give us that reality hasn’t already? The film is about a couple who falls out of love and then people start dying around them as they play mind games with each other. Well, we had a front-row seat for when Ben and Ana fell out of love, and in turn, I guess you could say we also got some very comprehensive coverage on why their love died. As for the mind games, we’re still trying to figure out who was responsible for throwing Ana’s life-size cardboard cutout into the trash. Truly a more compelling story than anything Disney could release to us.
