Open Post: Hosted By Barefoot And Oreo’s New “Cookie-Inspired” Wine

Oreos and wine? Sure, but only if you pair them correctly. You don’t have to be a world-class oenologist to know that when it comes to wine pairings, the food chosen to pair with a particular vintage, should be informed by the terroir, as the French would say, where the grapes were grown. For example, let’s say your butler serves you a crisp, acidic 2016 Chenin blanc from the Loire Valley to have with your mid-day seafood tower, you are within your rights to slap that shit right out of their hand. It’s not cute, them playing in your face like that. You should be having a coastal wine, preferably something from the Bordeaux region. Any idiot knows this. Thankfully, Barefoot Wine has got it right. Food & Wine reports that Barefoot has teamed up with Oreo Thins to create a blend that not only reflects the microclimate of the windswept valley of Cookie Canyon, it also speaks to the fields of crèams that traverse the marshmallow hills of Candy Land-upon-Hasbro (™).

The best news is that it’s as affordable as it is extra fancy. According to Food & Wine, Barefoot’s new Oreo Thins-inspired “grape wine with natural flavors” can be had for just $24.99. Hold on, I know I said affordable but don’t close your browser in disgust just yet. That price includes “one package of Oreo Thins cookies (while supplies last).” The best part? I saved that for last. THAT PRICE IS FOR TWO BOTTLES! No stressful wine auction required! Here’s what you’re getting.

No Oreo cookies were harmed in the production of this tipple. Instead, Barefoot says their “very first cookie-inspired wine” is intended to perfectly pair with Oreo Thins thanks to the 13-percent ABV blend’s aromas of chocolate and tasting notes that include more chocolate, cookies and crème, and oak, along with the natural flavors of blackberry and dark cherries. “We had such a great time exploring the different flavor combinations, ultimately pairing the signature flavors of Oreo Thins cookies with a blend of our bright, berry-flavored red wine,” explained Barefoot winemaker Jen Wall.

But pairing aside, this one might be worth it for the label alone which really embraces the Oreo artwork in a place you probably never expected to see it. The bottle is sure to make conversation even before you’re getting tipsy off 13-percent ABV cookie wine.

It’s true, you’ve got to see the label up close to appreciate the work that went into it. This isn’t just some generic bullshit slapped together by an unpaid intern at Nabisco. This bottle was clearly designed by someone for whom graphic design is their passion!

So in the spirit of the holiday season, don’t can your butler just because they tried to give you a 1983 Napa Valley Dominus Cabernet Sauvignon with your apres sauna Double Stuf Oreos. Send them to Target for some Barefoot and Oreo Thins! I’ll let you in on a little insider secret. It pairs almost as well with the Double Stuf if you pop an Altoid right before. So drink the wine and regift the thins! They make a lovely hostess gift.
