Adele is crushing it in the album sales. Which will shock nobody. Adele’s albums 21, and 25 were monster hits sales-wise and her latest 30 is no exception. In fact, Billboard says it’s the only album this year, and the first since Taylor Swift released Folklore in 2020, to sell 1 million copies in the US alone. We’re not talking just steaming. We’re talking actual physical copies of 30 too. And nobody buys those anymore. Since everyone wants to know their Spotify Wrapped, they skip over physical album purchases. But not the Adele fans.
30 has sold just over 1 million in traditional album sales in the U.S., across all of its formats (CD, vinyl LP, cassette and digital album download), through Dec. 6, according to initial reports to MRC Data. The album was released on Nov. 19.30 sold 692,000 copies in its first week in the U.S. (week ending Nov. 25), and then sold 225,000 copies in its second week (ending Dec. 2)…
Only three albums released in 2019 have sold a million copies to date (Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, Swift’s Lover and Harry Styles’ Fine Line) and in 2018 just one album released went on to sell a million (Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s soundtrack to A Star is Born).
Of course, howling “Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-low” earned those tricks a million albums! That earworm would not let up. But if you’re a die-hard Adele fan and think you’re gonna be pulling an Oprah and singing along to all her tracks at her Las Vegas residency, which begins in January, you better be fully vaccinated and COVID-free.
The Independent says that Adele’s shows have some strict rules regarding Coronavirus. The Ticketmaster website went down because of a technical glitch, so people wanting to buy tickets will have to do so today, and on the sales screen is this notice:
“Both proof of vaccination AND proof of a negative test within 48-hours of event is required to enter the event. Proof of vaccination and negative test result must be issued from the healthcare provider performing the vaccination or test. Both documents are required for entry and can be displayed on your smartphone or as physical copies. Tests administered via an at-home kit will not be permitted.”
And that’s not all. Everyone who is eligible for a vaccine must comply with the rules, and children who are still too young have to show a negative test and wear a mask during the whole show. I do feel bad for those kids who have to sit there with soggy masks because Adele keeps bringing them to tears!!!! Hopefully, their parents will pack some dry replacements for them.
