Sam Asghari Admits That Being Britney Spears’ Boyfriend Helped His Career

November 22, 2021 / Posted by:

If you’re anything like me, you hear the name “Sam Asghari” and maybe you start humming the chorus of “Oops…I Did It Again,” or maybe one of the dumber parts of your brain goes, “It’s Britney, bitch.” And the reason for that is because prior to a few years ago, Sam Asghari wasn’t exactly a household name outside of his parent’s house. But now he’s Sam Asghari, established actor and stand-alone famous person, who also just so happens to be Britney Spears’ fiancé and loudest supporter. And Sam happens to be very aware that his relationship to Britney is what put his ass on the map. Oh, and speaking of being Britney’s loudest supporter? Some Britney fans are questioning just how supportive he might be, considering he deliberately failed to support her during a recent red carpet appearance.

The House of Gucci premiere was held last night at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, and Sam got an invite to walk the red carpet, because hello – were you asleep when we mentioned he’s a famous actor now and not just some random guy who is with Britney Spears? Sam spoke to Variety, and talked about Britney’s recent conservatorship victory, saying that Britney, with the support of her fans, is the reason Britney is finally free:

“I am so happy for her and I’ve been a backbone for her as much as I could, but this is all on her. She’s been a rock. She inspires me. She loves her fans. So you know, all the fans and her effort, kind of make this become, you know, possible. So I’m happy for her.”

When Variety pointed out that things have been good for Sam as well, like the role he landed in Mel Gibson’s upcoming film Hot Seat, he gave a special shout-out to the lady that made it all possible. And no, I’m not talking about Lady Luck:

“I’m just living my life and having a great moment. And I just want to thank [Spears] so much for putting me on the map as far as, you know, everything else that’s going on in my career. She helped me so much with that. Let’s be real. Let’s be real now, right?”

Why do I get the feeling that right after Sam said those words, Octavia Spencer reached for her phone and started typing a comment in Britney’s latest Instagram post that reads: “So what’s the status on that prenup.” That hasn’t happened yet, but at least Sam is being honest about why his name has risen up about ten million points in the IMDb.com STARmeter, and why he’s now booking roles that have a first and last name, instead of “Hot waiter” or “Hunky Christmas party stripper.” Also, is there a partner version of nepotism? Usually that applies to a parent getting their kid a career, but what about this situation? Pending further investigation, I’ll refer to it as nepospearsm.

And yes, speaking of Britney, or rather, not speaking of Britney. Maybe Sam only wanted to talk Britney to Variety. Because when it came time to approach Entertainment Tonight’s mic and Britney’s name was brought up, he quickly changed the subject.

As that tweet points out, Sam’s response to the question felt a lot like Christina Aguilera’s response at the Latin Grammys, when she was asked about Britney’s conservatorship being over. Britney publicly called out Christina for evading any and all Britney-centric questions. I have a feeling Sam won’t get dragged on Instagram for the same crime, because Sam did speak at that premiere at least once in support of Britney. And, to top it all off, he might have also dragged Justin Timberlake a little too on social media. via UsWeekly:

The fitness guru shared a screenshot of a [Variety] article about him thanking Spears for helping his acting career via his Instagram Story on Sunday, November 21. “Bringing sexy back is cool and all,” he wrote alongside the image. “But bringing (real) back in Hollywood is even sexier.” Asghari finished his post with a winking face with tongue emoji.

Justin Timberlake remains a frequent villain in the narrative of Britney’s life, so Sam might have been doing a little shady disservice to the ramen-haired one. Or, he might have just run out of creative steam while typing that Instagram Story caption and grasped at whatever metaphorical straws were closest in his brain. It was probably a little shady. Because had his intentions not been shady, how could he miss the most obvious way to once again pay tribute to the woman responsible for it all, and give a nod to one of her best songs about being famous. “And they say…he’s so lucky, he’s a star, but he love love loves that he gets to go home to the most wonderful talented strong woman in the world!
