Taylor Swift’s New 10 Minute Version Of “All Too Well” Has People Mad At Jake Gyllenhaal All Over Again

When I saw Jake Gynnhaal trending on Twitter last night I braced for the worst. And reader, I was not wrong to do so. Jake Gyllenhaal was dating Taylor Swift. Thank god it happened 10 years ago but still, what were you thinking? I had forgotten how mad the Swifties were at Jake when the song All Too Well debuted on Taylor’s 2012 album Red. But because the only villain in the Taylorverse more dastardly than Jake is Scooter Braun, Taylor’s rerecording all her old albums. And so, with the release of Red (Taylor’s Version) last night, the internet is crawling up Jake’s ass anew for allegedly popping Taylor’s cherry before ghosting her on her 21st birthday as suggested in the lyrics of All Too Well (10 Minute Version: This Time It’s Even More Personal).

Who could forget the heady fall days of 2010 filled with scarfs, maple lattes, and whatever Jake’s usual Starbucks order was (oat milk flat white is my guess), their hearts aflutter to the 1/250 sec beat of the paparazzi’s cameras. And even though the relationship only lasted a few months, its end “led to a wrenching breakup ballad that is deeply meaningful to her listeners and was recently named by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest songs of all time,” according to The Washington Post. Yes, Jake, even Jeff Bezos is dragging your ass. Taylor recently appeared on The Tonight Show and The Late Show to promote Red (Taylor’s Version) and explained why the previous, shorter version of ATW couldn’t encompass the depth of her despair. via Yahoo!:

On The Tonight Show, Swift shared how the song started off as an ad-libbed jam session with her band during a “sad time” in her life.

“I showed up for rehearsals and I just was really upset, and sad, and everybody could tell, it was really, like, not fun to be around me that day,” explained Swift, who continued, saying, “So I started playing guitar and just kind of playing the same four chords over and over again. And I just started, kind of, the band sort of joined in, and I started ad-libbing what I was going through, and what I was feeling, and it went on, and the song kept building and building and building in intensity, and the song just went on for about, you know, 10 to 15 minutes of us doing this.”

Fortunately, that specific emotional chapter in her life is over, and on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Swift said how much better of an experience it was recording “All Too Well” this time around.

“At the time I was, like, honestly, really sad. Cause I’d actually gone through, you know, the stuff that I had sung about. But this time, I’ve got sunglasses on and a mojito and just, like, it’s chill this time. It’s really nice to be able to put this album out and not be sad not be, like, taking breaks in between interviews to cry. I’m telling you, it’s much better this way,” Swift told Meyers.

Better for who, Taylor? Certainly not better for Jake! The new, 10 minute version of ATW makes it even more clear that it was Jake who inspired the song. According to Page Six, in the previously unreleased lyrics, Taylor intimates that Jake broke up with her because of their age difference.

Taylor Swift’s new lyrics for her 10-minute version of “All Too Well” indicates her nine-year age gap with Jake Gyllenhaal was the reason for their breakup.

In the new version, released Friday on her rerecorded “Red” album, Swift sings, “You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine / And that made me want to die.”

The 31-year-old singer has never officially confirmed the song is about Gyllenhaal, 40, but it’s become widely accepted that it is.

The additional lyrics in her rerecorded version point to the heartbreak she felt at the time, with lyrics such as, “They say all’s well that ends well, but I’m in a new hell / Every time you double cross my mind.”

“You, who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes / Sipping coffee like you were on a late-night show / But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come / And he said, ‘It’s supposed to be fun turning 21,’” she sings.

And things are just going to get worse for Jake this week. Taylor’s written and directed a short film to go with the song, which is supposed to come out later today.

Just like Taylor to release this at Thanksgiving time knowing damn well Jake’s going to be needing a scarf of these chilly nights. Raw neck it dude, it’s a trap! According to The Washington Post:

Another trope became “the scarf,” thanks to the lyric, “I left my scarf there at your sister’s house, and you’ve still got it in your drawer, even now.” The aforementioned Thanksgiving took place with Gyllenhaal’s sister, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, who was in some of the paparazzi photos — and Jake has since been spotted with a scarf that looks awfully similar to the one Swift was wearing that day. (Maggie professed ignorance when this topic came up a few years ago on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live,” though said “everyone asks” her about it.)

Some speculate that if Jake had just given her back her fucking scarf, none of this would be happening!

Here’s Taylor on The Tonight Show casually ruining Jake’s life for what?
