After His New Album Went #1, Ed Sheeran Says That Many Of His Fellow Pop Stars “Actively Want Me To Fail”
Who knew that Ed Sheeran was the It-girl of the male pop-star community and that the haters all want to see his destruction? At least, that seems to be what Ed thinks. While on the Halfcast podcast, Ed said that he’s heard some of his fellow pop stars punch the air whenever he has a hit and are thirsty to see his demise. But well, the joke’s on Ed’s haters, because as long as doctor’s waiting rooms exist, Ed Sheeran’s music will reign alongside Adele’s.
You thought only female pop stars of today had feuds? Guess again! On Halfcast, Ed talked about the way other people in the industry have reacted to his latest release which is already topping the charts in the US and the UK. Ed said that only three other industry dudes have congratulated him and they are UK rappers Stormzy and Dave, and Sir Elton John. He said, via The Mirror:
“In terms of people that actually root for me and want me to win… I know so many artists who, whenever I win, scoff, and actually actively want me to fail… But they would never tell me, I just know. I hang around with people and I hear things.”
The musical genius added about the love he feels from UK black musicians: “I feel accepted. It’s the only music community that roots for me.”
Ed said it’s “quite telling” that rappers Stormzy and Dave have emailed to say they like the new album, but none of his pop peers have. He continued: “Stormzy is the most good-hearted successful person I know that genuinely is overjoyed for my success.”
Doting dad Ed went on to reveal Stormzy, Dave and Elton got in touch with him about the new album and told him what they loved the most about it. “It’s him, the producer Fraser T Smith, Dave and Elton John who all sent emails this week, in-depth, about the album, what they liked about the songs. Dave rang me,” he added.
“I can’t take that for granted, because I don’t have many friends who are famous musicians. I have lots of acquaintances and lots of people who I hang out with, but I would class Stormzy as a brother.”
So wait… does this mean Taylor Swift didn’t congratulate him? Oh my god, did she scratch his name off of her BFF t-shirt along with Karlie Kloss? Drama!!! Here’s Ed on Halfcast:
Poor Ed, getting bullied by the likes of who I can only assume to be Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber. I’m sure that at night, Ed cries himself to sleep using the millions of dollars of tour revenue he earns to wipe his tears. But maybe his “peers” roll their eyes at his successes because he keeps ripping musical artists off. Marvin Gaye is not Ed’s “peer” but the spirit of Marvin Gaye is definitely not listening to Ed’s music in the afterworld.
