Lynne Spears Wants Britney Spears’ Estate To Cover $650,000 In Her Attorney Fees

Earlier this week, Britney Spears took to Instagram and in no uncertain terms, let everyone know that when she’s talking about the rude, hurtful leeches she calls her family, she most certainly also means her mother, Lynne Spears. Britney accused her mother of being the puppet master who orchestrated her conservatorship (while also simultaneously accusing her father Jamie Spears of not being smart enough to cook up such a scheme). According to Britney, her life used to be the “family business,” but it’s not anymore, thanks to Britney being several steps closer to freedom. So what’s a woman to do when her very famous daughter publicly accuses her of being a shameless conspirator who was maybe thinking with her wallet? You might release a statement apologizing to your daughter. Or, if you’re Lynne Spears, you try not to look embarrassed as it’s revealed you want your daughter to pay $650,000 in your attorney fees.
This all happened on Monday, when Lynne filed papers with the courts, petitioning for payments from Britney’s estate. Britney’s dad used to control Britney’s money, so had Lynne acted sooner, she might have had an easier time scamming Britney’s bank situation, considering she had a man on the inside. But Jamie doesn’t have control over Britney’s money, since being suspended by a judge, and also it feels like Jamie and his ex-wife Lynne don’t exactly have the best relationship at the moment. So Lynne has to go about plucking pennies from her daughter’s wallet in a more legitimate way: by going to the courts and telling them she needs a whole lot of cash to pay her bills. via People magazine:
As Britney Spears’ conservatorship inches closer to an end, her mother Lynne is requesting more than $650,000 in attorney-related fees.
In a petition for payments filed on Monday, Lynne, 66, requested that her attorneys be paid for by Britney’s estate for their involvement in her conservatorship case. The request comes as Britney, 39, slammed her mother Tuesday evening in a since-deleted post.
Lynne just made every shameless old-school stage mom die of embarrassment. Filed real notarized legal documents? Why, in my day, we just forged their signature while opening a credit card in their name and committed insurance fraud! As People points out, Britney’s Instagram post where she dragged her mom actually happened the day after Lynne filed to get $650,000 from Britney’s estate to pay for her lawyers. So Britney’s motivation for burning that maternal bridge likely came from the fact that her mother was still treating her like an ATM.
I got a little confused as to how Lynne Spears managed to rack up $650,000 in attorney’s fees, considering she wasn’t Britney or Jamie Spears, aka the two people who were fighting for control over Britney’s life. But Lynne’s attorneys cleared things up and explained why Lynne has such a big legal bill.
Lynne’s attorneys claimed that the popstar’s mother reached out to them to “help Britney free herself from what she saw as a very controlling existence.” They also state that they engaged in “researching and vetting appropriate qualified expert doctors” for Britney in May 2019 and later said they advocated for Jamie’s removal from the conservatorship.
They add that Lynne’s bill is actually a bit higher; she reportedly pulled in $840,000 in attorney’s fees, but her attorneys decided to give her a bit of a break with a discount. That’s kind of them because I don’t know if Lynne could move enough Rodan + Fields to cover that bill.
They also say that Lynne wasn’t just working with lawyers for the Hell of it; Lynne’s lawyers claim that when Lynne approached Britney and proposed she work with her daughter to achieve her #FreeBritney dreams, that Britney “enthusiastically agreed.”
But I have a question. Why did Lynne need so many billable hours with a lawyer to help advocate for Britney? The #FreeBritney movement was doing that for free. To be fair, I have never fought over a conservatorship, so maybe Lynne really did need to work with lawyers. Although now I’m skeptical about Lynne’s motivation when she filed papers back in April demanding to know where Britney’s money had gone. Lynne wanted a complete forensic breakdown! And if they have time, could they let Lynne know if Britney’s estate has enough cash to cover Lynne’s future legal bills? Only if they have time!
